WOW, an Oasis of R&R in Bali and a reason to return to Ubud despite it's urbanisation. Cannot understand why Asia Rooms lists this as 3 star. It fully matches the 5 star definition in all but the sumptuous lobby... and who cares. They deal with you personally in lounge environment reminiscent of the days of old Raffles. And Meals...? Lobster is half the price at Jimbaran Bay. Rave, rave, rave... this was the only thing that could stop my wife shopping. This place is so stunning she just wanted to stay and stay and stay. Please upgrade their star rating guys they deserve it.

"The entire staff was warm, friendly, and very concerned to know if our needs were being met and if we were enjoying our stay. The view from our villa across the river was wonderful. Excellent food at every meal, especially the Balinese breakfast. The short shuttle to town was totally responsive to our needs. Computer access was a bit antique and not entirely responsive."

"The best part about this hotel was by far the room. It was simply beautiful. This was by far the hardest room for us to leave in Bali, and every time we came back to the room we lost 4 grey hairs and 2 wrinkles each. We were glad to get a plunge pool, though it was too cold to use (I doubt it's ever warm enough in Ubud to use these deep pungle pools-- they should heat them). My husband had a bit of an accident in Ubud shortly after arriving there (watch out for the sidewalks) and I cannot commend the staff enough for their gracious, attentive, and immediate care. They were incredibly thoughtful and helpful, and made a potentially VERY bad moment (and ruined honeymoon) fade into an inconvenience. We are deeply grateful to the hotel staff for ensuring that the remainder of our honeymoon wasn't ruined, and for taking wonderful care of us. The grounds are not the big draw here, though they are interesting in a meditative sort of way. There is an interesting little path down to the river, and you can walk along the upper ridge of the surrounding valleys, as well. Some rooms do have much better views than others, so inquire in advance. The room service is wonderful, so go for it if you're in the mood. You can eat inside, or in bed, or on your terrace, or by your pool... they will take excellent care of you and the food is very, very good. Have a banana cream, and try the Balinese breakfast. My favorite Nasi and Mie Goreng were at the Pita Maha. The shuttle is not as inconvenient as I had imagined before going to Ubud; it was actually really great, and if they see you walking around town, they'll pull over and ask you if you need a ride. I also highly recommend renting a car or van with a driver to tour whatever it is you'd like to see, for the convenience, comfort, and price value. There are many interesting things to see nearby. We had 2 spa services. The spa is rather disorganized so I'd recommend aranging services prior to arrival. The foot reflexology was unfortunately really just a bad leg massage, but the traditional lulur in the villa spa was probably the single best spa treatment I have ever had. Ever. And I'm pretty spoiled as far as spa services go. The bathroom toilet in our room oddly had outdoor views to the courtyard and outdoor shower/tub, which was irritating. But the outdoor shower and tub were, well, wow. Really great. The hotel offers a free library of DVDs and books, which we used and were grateful for. The bed was really very comfortable, as was the other furniture in the room. The lighting was nicely done and easy to use, and the TV was huge. There are restaurants very nearby. (Side note because it is so often recommended online: we considered Mozaic but it reminded us a bit too much of the overpriced chi-chi places you can find in NYC, and for NYC prices. If you do go, ask for a garden table.) I would heartily recommend the Pita Maha to pretty much any traveller to Ubud, including families and seniors but especially to small groups and romantic couples. Physically disabled people may have a little trouble with the rustic steps and pathways. "

"The hotel are happy to pick you up from the airport or other accomodation free of charge, this was an excellent service. the room was very large and was well appionted. the mini bar was a little over priced compared to our previous hotel. We ate once using room service, and the quality of food was good and not a bad price. Breakfast v good. No real complaints, but the service could have been a little better considering the cost. we tried to get a DVD to eatch in the evening, but the library had closed and they would not open it. Wouldn't have been any hastle at all for them."

"EXCELENT SERVICE, SUPERB VILLAS, ITS REALLY WORTH IT."

"We enjoyed our time at the Pita Maha, and intend to return. The best thing about this hotel is the atmosphere. Some of the other top-end hotels in Ubud, such as the Four Seasons or the Aman, have a someone sterile feel. They could be almost anywhere. The Pita Maha seemed much more Balinese to us. The villas are spacious, with attractive pools (those that have them). The long views give a very open feel. The main facility is the spa villa, which is highly recommended - not so much for the massage but for the facilites (many pools, a steam room and a sauna), which you have to yourself since the villa only takes one couple at a time. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, though occasionally their English was a little weak. Food is mediocre at the Pita Maha - fortunately Ubud is only a short shuttle ride away, and there are many great options there. "
