I must say the other posted review misses the point a bit. The attraction of Puri Ganesha for me is that it stays on the right side of the charm/authenticity/comfort line. This is Bali, so you may as well feel like you're in Bali, not FNQ. What this place has in spades over every other boutique hotel I've stayed in is a complete lack of corporate cynicism. Plenty of space to go at you own space. As for the proprietor's commentary on other establishments, she's invariably right about them and a great guide for what's good too.

Last Puri Ganesha Villas Hotel Reviews - 2 Unbiased Traveler Review (s)
3/5  Posted by Hera, Australia in October 2007
"This is a very unique "hotel" which bills itself as a luxury property, but reminded me more of really, really fancy camping (with a two story lodge to sleep in). The place is charming and funky, but it was not luxe as I was expecting. The towels were icky, the kitchen not too clean (I would have preferred not to have seen the marginally sanity conditions under which my meals were prepared) and the staff was incredibly annoying, albeit sweet. more on that below. This place is like staying as a guest in somebody's house. We did have a 2 story villa (as I think they all are) but since the stairs to the second floor bedroom were outside, we rarely used the first floor, so all that nice space is wasted. Also, there were tons of mosquitos here at night. The hosts are quite charming and will make sure you have a good time, but I did not favour the way that the proprietress put down other properties and gossiped and complained about them incessently. As well, though they are well-meaning, the omnipresence of the "butlers" who come from the neighboring village was entirely intrusive. More than once I came up to my room only to find the male "butler" in there holding a glass of water waiting for me and scaring the bejesus out of me. I wanted to be left alone, and politely kept telling them as much, but they didn't understand nor comply. These folks were too green as "butlers" to be useful (not that I wanted a butler - I didn't) and I found them to be very annoying and really detract from the experienced. They made me very uncomfortable. In the end I lost my temper even, and kind of blew up - raising my voice and saying "please, just leave me alone!" - and this was after several days of dealing with these butler people standing over me like hawks. I did get a nice massage from the in-house masseur who is also the gardner - you get the idea. It's a family-run place that advertises as being a luxury destination, but it really is not. Also, they subtley push their products on you, which I don't like. I'm glad I stayed there for the experience, but won't return. As well, it is very far north, and there is not too much to do in pemuteron (save for snorkling). If you are only in Bali for a short time, I would not recommend Puri Ganesha. If you are in bali for at least 2 weeks, and want to go somewhere out of the way, and feel as though you are going on a really nice camping trip replete with annoying and unhelpful "helpers" who don't respect privacy or boundaries, then you might like this place."
