We had wonderful two weeks stay. The hotel is very nice and its slightly remote location app 5km from Senggigi is not an issue at all. A taxi into town takes 10mins and app USD1 one way. The hotel has small but very nice grounds with a pool overlooking the beach and if you have clear days you can see the volcano on Bali 35kms away. For us who live in Hong Kong with killing pollution this was a treat for the eyes and our lungs. The air is crystal clear, the water and the beach free of plastic, bottles etc. Much better than anything we have seen in Thailand. The rooms are modern, well designed and the bathroom is in the open air. You can take a hot shower in the rain if it takes your fancy. However, the hotel is located very close to a local mosque so either you need to have a very deep sound sleep or take ear plugs not be woken up at 5am. Unless of course you are an early riser yourself. The hotel is suited for grown up audience; couples will enjoy it a lot. It is not suitable for single people as you will have no opportunity to meet anybody else. There is no nightlife other than sipping a cocktail all evening by the beach or by the pool. Ditto, in Senggigi. During the whole stay we only spoke to staff, never to other guests. I guess most people want to have piece and quiet and keep themselves to themselves. The hotel made a grave error accepting families with at some point 7 small children for app 4-5 days during our stay. After our inquires we found out that although there is no formal policy not take small children, the hotel would accept small children. The issue is not with children being bored, but the hotel grounds with only 20 villas are overtaken by screaming kids. Not exactly what you came here for if you are a romantic childless couple. The kitchen also needs to be more imaginative. The food is OK, nicely served, but on the expensive side - locally, it is still cheap when you compare to Europe, but if you live in Asia you may not find it so cheap after all. So for the price one would expect superb quality of ingredients which are by the way available. Fish, chickens, lamb, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions - all reared or grown locally and one could say totally organically since most cannot afford fertilizers and to be honest there is no need for this. Yet, my supposedly steak was substituted with no notice or price adjustment with minced meat cutlet! For a high class place you would expect the kitchen to have the guts to tell you they have run out of meat, but can offer something else. Instead the cook was hoping I would not notice?? On the other hand, the kitchen did well on the breakfast side. Also, there are plenty of choices to eat out in Senggigi. We recommend the place called Asmara. Decent prices, good home cooked food, good service. And this is about the only place here which serves wine by the bottle at decent prices. Avoid a place called Taman; the hygiene in the kitchen must be not so good since we found fish bones in our lamb cutlets!!
Overall, Qunci Villas is a little gem and we would certainly return.
