Would I stay at this location
again:

Most likely
The room was spacious and more than sufficient for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. We apreciated the room layout, where the sleeping area was separated from the bath and dressing area. Service was good and we had two good experiences where the Front Desk and Concierge staff went out of their way to assist us in tracking down information and lost items. We complimented them for their efforts. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

5/5  Posted by RATZLAFF, Josh, United States in May 2006
" This hotel was adjacent to the international conference center (quite large), so most of the tenants were business men. I wouldn't say I felt out of place as a western tourist, but I was one of few. After saying that, I would hasten to add that the staff was very helpful and courteous. They had an information desk with tons of information and maps on sight seeing, with a very knowledgable hostess (and english speaking). We got discounted tickets at the hotel desk to the nearby Onsen spa resort ($20, day pass), which was nearly the highlight of my stay in Kyoto. WELL WORTH IT. The hotel room price was decent, especially considering I was with two other travelers, in a triple twin bed configuration. The room was huge compared to our accomodations in Tokyo, and the view was exceptional as well. High speed Internet was 1000Y per day (about $10). The three restaurants in the hotel were VERY expensive with small portions. The sushi and appetizers were excellent despite the high price. To give you an idea, it costs 500Y for a bag of ice, or 400Y for a carafe of ice water. So bring snacks and drinks from a nearby convenience store (which are there). There is a small "snack" bar in the hotel lobby which serves various bread products, stuffed with just about everything from curry to cheese and bacon. Some were excellent for very cheap (about 180Y). The hotel was not centrally located, but actually a bit on the outer parts of Kyoto. However, the subway is literally a two minute walk from the hotel front door. If you take the Karasuma Line subway and jump off at the kokusaikaikan station, there is an exit that will put you nearly into the hotel parking lot (just look for the exit for international conf center). Overall, good hotel, spacious rooms, and great staff. Not the best location perhaps, but I would return just because of the near five star treatment you get for a low price. The hotel is not far from many of the most attractive temples, etc... just far from Kyoto city attractions."

"Although a little out of the centre of Kyoto, this hotel was within easy reach of kyoto station on the subway. It was an ideal location for those wanting to take in the beauty of the surrounding mountains, in a quiet area. The restaurants in the hotel were a bit expensive, but there were a few places nearby to eat and a large supermarket called 'Life' selling convenience foods also. The staff were extremely professional, friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and clean, the biggest hotel room I have stayed in in Japan so far! Breakfast was buffet style and there was a choice of Japanese, Chinese or Western style, with a wide selection of quality foods available. If you can find a good deal on the internet, this hotel provides very good value for money and certainly deserves its luxury rating."
