| "I really enjoyed my stay at New Otani Inn Hotel as this is the second time I went back there. Its location and room size are very good. Service at hotel was also commendable and efficient. The proximity of the supermarket, cafes, restaurants and combi were also ideal. However, I would really appreciate it if the Airport Limousine Bus Service will got to this hotel as well as it'll be an even more ideal place to come back to again with all my shopping plus luggage. Thank you!" |

| "Rooms are a bit on the smaller "cosier" side, but this as practical as Tokyo's accommodation gets. Clean, comfortable, right next to a station on Circle JR line and a small shopping centre with good choice of restaurants. Some extra in-house facilities would not hurt though - a better bar outside the breakfast cafe, another restaurant, free internet, health zone ..." |

| "Over all - GOOD!
Japan is a clean country. We are very impressed by the cleanness and services of the hotel. When we checked into our room, we found a sweaty smell in the bathroom. We called the operator and minute later, cleaner brought air freshener to spray the bathroom. It smell good after spraying, but few hours later when we came back from outside, again the sweaty smell. Luckily, smell gone after bathing.
The utensil for boiling water is too small. It only for 2 cups of tea. So, 3 of us have to boil the water again and again.
Location - Good because it links to the JR rail station. It save a lot of walking, especially after shopping.
It would be perfect if the hotel provide limousine service (to/fro Narita airport).
Room rate a little bit expensive. " |

| "We were pleasantly surprised with the size of room and how fresh and clean they are. The bathrooms were of a good size, and the beds were very comfortable.
The buffet breakfast included in tariff was ordinary but ok. The location was great once you worked out the rail system, as the hotel is right on a rail stop.
Please make sure clients realize that there are two Otani Hotels, as it is easy to go to the wrong one, or for the airport operators to assume it's the newer, bigger hotel, which are not near each other.

| "There was a problem to find the hotel. At Tokyo station we have been send to New Otany Hotel in Asakasa. So we recommend to give notice that the hotel is close to Osaki station. After arriving at the hotel everything was perfect." |

| "The hotel was pleasant but not exciting, and the service and breakfast were good. The room was a bit small but fine.
The location of the hotel was more distant from the city than I expected, but the trains are convenient and regular." |

| "ROOM SIZE - we had the semi-double room. The room was just big enough to fit a bed, small table and a chair. We had hardly any space for our 3 bags. I lived in Japan for 4 years (in Kyoto and Tokyo) and thus was not expecting a large room. We were totally shocked to see the size of the room! I do not know why or how anyone accept staying in a place that tiny! the bed waas against the wall; and you had about 1.5 feet of space on the side -- smaller than my bedroom!!
SERVICE - there is none. If you have luggage like we did (we had been in Thailand for 2 weeks and had done some shopping), do not expect someone to help you with them. There is no bellboy service. There are 3 buggies near the entrance -- so it is self-service. You will roll your bags yourself to your room after you check in.
We stayed 4 nights/5 days. During this time no one was warm, friendly, nor hospitable. From the check-in to the restaurant staff. However, the housekeeping staff were nice.
Check-out ws 11:00am. When we asked for a late check-out, they flatly declined our request. We had to be out of the room by 11:00 or risk being charged a supplemental fee of 30% of the tariff. Our flight back to Canada was at 19:00 (7pm) and we simple asked for a check-out 1 hour later at 12:00. They would not have any of it.
Yet, when we first arrived at the hotel at around 12:00am, they said that check-in was at 14:00 (2pm) and that we could check-in early. We were rudely, told to return at 2pm - no ifs, ands, or buts. Imagine, an hour after people were supposed to have already checked out, we were told that there were no rooms ready for check-in!!
We had asked if it was possible for them to put our bags in our room once it was ready. We were informed, much to our shock and disbelief that they had no bell staff and we would have to bring them on the trolley ourseves!!
BUFFET BREAKFAST - The room included a buffet breakfast --- so what!!! It was the same American breakfast crap!! Dehydrated eggs, hydrated, crap ham, crap bacon, crap homestyle potatoes, crap sausages. They had a separate table for the Japanese style breakfast which was passable, but it too never changed in the 5 days we were there. They had yogurt, salad, and really crap bread products too. Monotonous and definitely not worth it. We got it with our room, but if you paid for it they charge you 1,795 Yen -- crazy!
LOCATION - was very good; right on the Yamanote line about. About 10-12 minutes to Shibuya and 15-18 minutes to Shinjuku and 2 minutes to Shinagawa. the hotel is connected to Osaki Station.
CLEANLINESS - the room was tidy enough, however the soiled/stained bedsheets were disgusting. They had been washed, of course but the stains of god only knows, made it difficult to get under the covers and sleep.
FACILITIES - What was probably worse than the staiined bed linens was the stuffiness of the room. We got a smoking room, although we had requested a non-smoking one. The smell was overwhelming. I was stuffed up the entire time I was in the room. The other proble is that in Japan, there are only 2 temperatures in hotel rooms. During the winter months they are oppressively HHHOOOTTT!!! AND in the summer months they are CCCOOLLLDD!!! It is like this --- there is only 1 central thermostat that controls the temperature for the entire building and only 2 settings Hot or Cold!!!! By the second day, we realized we had to turn off the AIR/AC as it was pumping out HHHOOTTT air. Sadly the windows did not open.
The bed did not have any give to it. You could feel the springs dig into your sides, and it drooped wherever you lay. So my partner and I were either at opposite ends of the bed so that we would not droop into the center of the bed or we were squashed against each other in the center.
Needless to say, we had slept VERY POORLY at the New Otani Inn.
VALUE - for CAD$117.00 including breakfast, sounds like a good deal for Tokyo. However, all things considered, i would not recommend the hotel and certainly could not stay here again. For CAD$100.00 (no breakfast) you could stay at the Washington Hotel in Shinjuku! We could have easily had breakfast for under CAD$17.00 at Mos Burger or Denny's for less than that.
Definitely shop around and pay more, if you have to, to avoid the type of hotel experience we had at the New Otani Inn. If you have to stay here, be aware that none of the limousine buses stop at this hotel. The FRIENDLY BUS stops at the Hotel LaForet. You will then need to take a taxi to the hotel. Make sure you tell the driver that you are going to the New Otani Inn at Osaki Station or he might bring you to the New Otani in Asakusa - a very expensive taxi ride indeed (this almst happened to us. Luckily we know the Tokyo geography and pointed out to the driver that he was not going in the correct direction --- SIGH!).
In short, only stay here as a LAST resort.
Regards,
2 Canadian Globetrotters" |
