| "My husband and I are living in KL. 3 nights at the Datai was a lovely respite from the city of KL. The service at the hotel was top notch, and the staff were lovely and helpful. Although expensive by local standards the food was great and a welcome change from the Malaysian food one often finds at resorts. The setting was perfect and we enjoyed staying at the resort. We enjoyed the benefits of being in a rain forest but with an easy walk to the private beach. Langkowi is a great island to drive around and when we return we still have plenty more to see. We shall definitely stay here again and are likely to be most tempted when we can get favourable rates due to it not being peak season. We also enjoyed the nature walk with the resident expert and wish to return to do the night walk." |

| "Members of staff do not speak good English at all (do not even try to make themselves understood - even when they realize they are not understood), food selection: average for a five star hotel, Service overrated. " |

| "We had a great stay at the Datai as part of our honeymoon. Yes it's pricey, but the room is beautifully decorated (if quite minimalistic) and the bathroom is lovely too, with double sinks.
We had a pool villa, which was v. luxurious, but I think if I was staying at the Datai again I would go for a superior villa. The reason for this is that the pools at the Datai are so nice that we tended to use them rather than our own, which was shaded by trees. Although we didn't have children, we preferred the bottom pool (the top pool is for over 18s) which had more atmosphere and was practically on the beach.
The service was amazing, which made you feel better about the money you're paying, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The food was also fantastic, and the Thai restaurant on the top floor is one of the most beautiful restaurants we had ever been to.
As the Datai is in the middle of the rainforest, we had monkeys running round the side of our pool, and saw a flying squirrel crawling up a tree while we were having our dinner, and there are the usual mozzies to contend with.
I would definitely recommend splashing out on the Datai for a couple of nights, but if you're looking for nightlife, or even a bit more atmosphere, I would only stay here for maybe 3/4 nights, and spend the rest of my time down town on the main beach, maybe at the Casa Del Mar. They really do make a fuss of you here though, so it is a treat for honeymooners.

| "The hotel was spectacular. It rained occasionally but that did not damped our spirits! My husband and I were there on our honeymoon and our stay was truly memorable. The staff were the friendliest, the restaurants all had amazing food, and the overall experience was just beautiful. The spa and hotel activities were also sufficient in that we saw no need to ever leave the hotel. Definitely staying on at the Datai next time we're in Langkawi. Things to do: jungle walk and spa treatments.

| "I stayed at the Datai with my boyfriend for one week and we both loved it. After travelling through Asia for three weeks, this was the most relaxing spot to find. Our villa surrounded by jungle was amazing, with animals passing by and beautiful decorated.
The whole setting is beautiful, wonderful beach, very interesting nature walks, great stuff and very good meals. You shouldn´t miss a romantic dinner on the beach.
All together the perfect place to stay! " |

| "I have been privileged to stay in some of the world's most luxurious hotels and I have to say the Datai Langkawi rates among the best. The service is attentive yet unobtrusive, food superb and location stunning. I have stayed in both the jungle villas (detached properties) and standard rooms (in main hotel block) and recommend either as they are all beautifully appointed and spacious.
The hotel jungle treks are not to be missed as the guides are incredibly informative and passionate about the island's ecology and habitat.
Be careful not to book between mid May and end of October as it's monsoon season!" |
