Nice large room, well decorated. Located next to a large shopping mall with good food court. Good sized swimming pool and terrace area. Located about 45mins walks from Georgetown centre so not central but plenty of cabs available (although traffic outside the hotel can be hectic at times!) Good hotel for the money.

I checked into the hotel quite late, around 6pm and was pretty impressed by the lobby. Very big and spacious. Very modern as well! When I was about to check in, there were 2 service staff at the counter. One lady was busy attending to a customer, however, there was another guy busy doing his own things and not even aware that I was waiting. I waited and waited for 10mins for the lady to finish serving her guest and attend to me. That guy did not even lift up his head to see if there are any guest who require any help.
I was checked into the last 2nd room, very far from the lift. Surprising, the carpet on the 8th floor is pretty soiled consider it a very new hotel. The room is very big and nice. I like the decor but not the toilet. Somehow, there is a funny smell in the toilet. I stayed there for 2 nights and the next day after I return to the room after my meetings, the rooms are cleaned up but to my surprise, the rubbish in the bins were not cleared. Although there were not much rubbish in it and it was all dry stuff but I thought they should have emptied them all.
Overall, G hotel is quite a nice hotel consider its great location. Right next to the shopping mall and hawker centre makes it very convenient. I may consider staying there again but I think the price is quite high for the 2 nights experience i have.

right in the middle at Gurney drive,next to shopping - Gurney Plaza with hips of resturants and cafes almost just like its within the hotel. Next to the mall is the famous gurney open space food/ hawker-- easy for family and kids. great place location , abt 15 mins away from airport.

The hotel was beautiful! Very modern and new. The room was in immaculate condition and the facilities were great. The staff were all really helpful too.
The hotel was in a great location! Right next to the Gurney Plaza Shopping Mall and hawker stalls but it's about 20 mins away from the main beach and about 10-15 mins from the main bar/club area. So if you're looking to head to the beach everyday, then G Hotel might not be the one for you.

Hotel pegs itself as a stylish address on Gurney Drive, and indeed it is, compared to the other hotels in the area. The lobby is gorgeous. The rooms aren't too bad, modern, spacious and clean, although a little bit worse for wear already, but nothing to really take issue on. The problem with this hotel is that the staff aren't well-trained. They're fairly clueless and hence inefficient. For example, our rooms weren't ready even though the receptionist promised ready rooms at 2pm, when we reached the hotel in the morning at 11am. We had to fuss before we were offered alternative rooms. No initiative from the front desk at all. Anyway, isn't it rather silly to blurt out to your customers that their designated rooms aren't ready, when alternative rooms are available? Also, staff gave wrong info regarding the airport - very strange, as this is very basic info they should know working in a hotel. Not to say they weren't courteous in general, but if the G Hotel touts itself as a premier address then it should make sure its staff is up to par.

There was an issue with the bathroom...
There was an issue with the bathroom which smelled and the aircon in the first room (room num 1205) , but after complaining of the same we were moved to a diff room . though the aircon wasnt as effective yet much better than the previous room .
No concierge in sight when we reached the hotel so take the luggage on our own . The reception at the reservation desk is ok.
The pool is nice , though since there is construction work happening around the hotel , you are in full view of the workers and the noise !!
theres a mall rgt next to the hotel which is more than decent and there are food joints available too . so food is not an issue .
rooms were big an spacious, need to request for the moisturizing lotion which is not in the room , though its a boutique hotel!!
housekeeping /service is good. staff is polite and good to deal with .
all in all a decent stay and if i visit penang again will stay there.

The hotel is not worth for paying!!!As this kind of amount, I can get better suite in other hotels. The service is not up to standard and especially the lobby's toilet, it was so dirty and not well-maintained although the hotel is new. I have also feedback to their management on this matter but there is no response from them yet, SO DISAPPOINTED!!!And this is a new five star hotel.

The hotel itself, was great and clean. But, being a 5 star hotel, the services are extremely poor!!. Upon arrival (12noon), we had to wait over 2 hours sitting in the lobby before we can check in. We booked for 5 rooms but only 1 room was available at the time. There was no kind of services provided: no greetings, no bellboys, no complimentaries, no apologies etc for the very late check-ins. After checking in, there were heaps of amenities missing. There was only one bathrobe, one pair of thongs, no complimentary water. One of our friends room didn't get clean the next day and when they call up to complain late in the afternoon, they were told that they had to press this "service" button in the room to get it clean which was nonsense as we didn't press anything and we got ours done.

Soy Restaurant : My family and myself had the most wonderful dinner and impeccable service ever at the fusion SOY restaurant. We were blown away by the yummy food (e.g lamb shank/fried rice with veal/ chocolate tart/ duck spring rolls). The two filipino waiters who waited on us on the first sunday of June were super attentive and thoughtful.
if i were to go penang again..EVEN if i were not staying at g hotel. i would definitely have my meals at SOY again. Thanks SOY who made my stay a better one.
Bathroom : A toilet without showerhead is absolutely ridiculous. Poorly designed without thinking about the needs of the guests. Withtoilet doors having openings and with the shower area not fully enclosed will only cause the guest to feel extremely cold while showering. Another design flaw that i am absolutely disappointed with. Never seen such flaws in a 5star hotel.
Pool : Level 3 where the pool is located-the lift lobby is perpetually wet from the wet feet of the guests! Accidents are just waiting to happen-i tell ya! Slippery floors are totally unacceptable. For the safety of the guests-i seriously urge the management of g hotel to look into this.
