"During 3 weeks in New Zealand with many 1 or 2 night stops this was easily the worst place we stayed. I can't remember what we paid, I'm sure it must have been cheap but so were other, much better places. The room was small and drab, the bathroom had seen better days. I didn't bother with the shower which looked awful but decided to wait for the higher standard hotel we had booked the following night. There was no hairdryer and no iron or ironing board. These are generally standard in NZ. We may have felt differently had we had a lake view as Lake Tekapo itself is stunning. On a more positive note, we walked down the road to a really good restaurant with lake views for dinner and the hotel staff managed to produce perfect soft bioled eggs for breakfast on request."

"A beautiful location With helpful, friendly staff but the rooms are in need of an update. The restuarant is excellent and it alone would ensure that we consider a return stay."

"The hotel was probably ok in it's time, trouble is that was obviously quite a while ago and it doesn't seem to have been modernised or decorated for a long time, the decor could definitely do with some attention. also the window catches didn't really work, the first room we were in just had a hook to hold the balcony door shut (which could've been opened from outside). For the price it wasn't at all like I was expecting and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was advertised as having a swimming pool, which was a selling point, but when we got there the pool was empty and didn't look like it had been used in a long time."

"Lake view rooms have excellent vistas. Room balconies open to everybody, some sectioning off required. Great base for touring mount cook."
