We found the locality great because it was on the public transport route and it meant that until we moved on further up north we did not have to hire a car.
The availability of shops also was very good. I would have been great if a small kitchenette, i.e. microwave or small hotplate then you would be able to also do some in room meals. Most of the other hotels/motels that we stayed in, in North Island had breakfast/lunch/tea facilities they still had cooking facilities.
This means that you don't mind spending a little more on accommodation, because you often save on main meals.
All in all a great time was had and it couldn't have started in a better way than at the Brentwood. The staff were very accomodating and moved us as we were oringinally put upstairs but as I have a brace on my leg and when they were informed that the stairs were a bit dangerous for me they moved us immediately and were very apologetic.
