"Very friendly staff. They arranged a half day tour round the city with a very competent guide. Well worth the money. Nice breakfast, pleasant pool area. High class barbeque evening outside. Anne-Marie and Lars, Sweden "

"I booked to stay at this supposed 4 star hotel for 5 nights in October and requested a late check in and non-smoking rooms. When my party arrived at 2230 hrs we were told that there were no non-smoking rooms available and were allocated 2 rooms on the 3rd floor which smelt of smoke, had blood stained bedding, the carpets were filthy, infact, the rooms were dirty and badly in need of refurbishment. We could clearly hear the music from the bar on the 8th floor and did not get to sleep until the bar closed at 0200am. Imagine our horror when at 0630am building work started 2 feet away from our window. Breakfast was nothing more than adequate, the crossiants were stale, and the same gratefruit halves appeared three days running. The staff did change our rooms to the other side of the hotel away from the building site and bar after we complained very forcefully and these were an improvement, but still needed refurbishment. The towels and sheets in the new rooms were clean but very old and treadbear. Infact, the whole hotel had the appearence of being very run down and certainly not what I expect of a 4 star hotel."

"Al Falaj Hotel is located in a convenient spot which enables you to visit all the tourist sights you want to (as long as you have your own car & maps!!). The hotel is basically an old Mecure - so the standard is still very good. Considering hotel prices in Oman, this hotel is EXcellent value for money. The only negative would be the restaurants - there is basically only one ala carte which is Japanese (fine if you like Japanese - our whole family ate there both nights but more than 2 or 3 nights would not be a good choice). The staff were all professional, friendly and helpful. When requesting items from room service or laundry, staff immediately took action which ensured fast delivery of your requests. Overall the food is of good quality in the breakfast/cafe area and the pool was a wonderful respite after all day touring. Overall a great stay & we will be back again!"

"Stayed 4 nights. A local map would be useful covering 1 square km so that you knew where immediate amenities where.Useful information from reception desk but I found the price trips a bit steep and not really worth the money. Better to hire a car as driving is not difficult there. The bars were smoky at times but prices reasonable. The breakfast was a bit disappointing but the coffee shop meals were good value. A shame that there was no one serving refreshments by the pool and you usually had to look for a waiter from inside. The rooms could do with a lick of paint. Overall quite good value for money."

"Out of two weeks in Oman in December we spend the first five and the last three days in this hotel in the capital. We especially enjoyed the big swimming pool and the wonderful health club, as well as the bar and excellent filipino band on the 8th floor! We will always be grateful for the valuable advice we got from the helpful staff concerning our 5-day-tour including other hotel-, dune- and beach-camp reservations. The breakfast buffet caters to every taste. Rooms and bathrooms are big and clean, service is friendly and fast. Although Muttrah might seem the best location for tourists, Ruwi (where Al Falaj is located) becomes more attractive the more you become aquainted with its restaurants, the neighboring Museum, car rental companies, tour operators and service taxi connections near the hotel."

"The staff of the reception could be a little more friendly. The wall to wall carpets in the rooms need absolutely to be changed. "
