Bencoolen, Singapore

"The hotel was surprisingly good value for money. The room was very clean and the size was good compared to other hotels in this price range. The bed was a little firm, but comfortable. The bathroom size was very good and had a seperate shower which is unusual in a budget hotel room in Singapore. The water was fast flowing and nice and hot, which I loved! The pool was small but adequate, and very secluded. There was a small room with modern gym equipment for patrons use as well near the pool area. The breakfast was limited, but I was happy with the quality of the food, tables were limited outside, but more were available at the adjacent bar. The bar area stank of smoke and was very dark and dingy. The staff were quite friendly and warm. The entry and lobby area perhaps needed brightening up, and the lifts were very slow and only one of the 2 lifts went to level 5??? But overall I would strongly recommend this hotel as good value for money for the budget conscious, and the bonus is that it is very centrally located. Only 5 minutes walk from Bugis St Markets and Sim Lim Square, and 5 minutes by taxi to Orchard St or Suntec City shopping areas. I rate this hotel as 8/10 for the budget traveller, you won't find a much better hotel all up for this money, trust me!"

"The staff are friendly and accomodating. Though the room is quite small, it is clean. The food, on the other hand, is also good. Overall, I enjoyed our stay in Hotel Bencoolen. "

"Hotel Bencoolen is in an ideal location in Singapore. However the rooms are miniscule, so if you want to be able to move around, dont book anything less than King Solomon(we upgraded on our first day and it cost a small fortune). Breakfast is a farse,1 x 2 slice toaster, however there are lots of great eating places across the road."

"We stayed at the Bencoolen for 3 days in November. Everything i read on the reviews were true. For a budget hotel, this hotel offered clean,comfortable rooms and bathroom. The staff were accomodating and one can see that they take great pains in trying to keep the hallways,carpets, rooms and elevator clean and fresh smelling. Although it was the tiniest hotel room we've ever stayed in, it was just enough for my husband and me for our short stay in Singapore."
