Ignore my rating number, because your reaction to the Fragrance Emerald hotel will be very subjective:
-- the neighborhood is not suitable for families, there are way too many unglamorous prostitutes hanging about. BTW, I did not notice people using the hotel as a short time, but that doesn't mean they don't.
-- in my case, my single room was as small as could be, and there is an Asian style shower in that bathroom (no enclosure)
-- there was usually NO HOT WATER! As Singapore is in the tropics, this is not so bad, but be warned.
-- the hotel lacked a SECURITY BOX, so you have to take care of your own valuables and passport, they did not encourage locking in the hotel safe also which is very, very unusual for a tourist hotel.
-- the neighborhood is colourful and interesting, the availability of very good hawker food and a low price is staggering
-- the neighborhood is a good contrast to the tourist parts of Singapore which are indeed quite sterile, makes for a good mix of experiences
-- the location is very good because you can either take a bus on nearby Geylang or walk about 8 minutes to the incredible SMRT subway system
-- the staff is friendly and helpful, and the room cleaning is efficient
-- the price is incredibly low for a hotel in Singapore; however, when you consider the points I mentioned, you can understand the low price!
Up to you, I would visit again personally, it is worth the money.

| "The hotel is good for romantic couples, room is clean, AC is working very well as well as TV, bathroom is good with complete accessories (towel, soap etc). Staff are very nice since one of them is Filipino, internet is excellent very fast 9 S$ for 3 hours is good enough. We stay for 4 days and so far so good and we went back after 2 weeks and stay for 2 nights. Price per day is cheap when you book on line otherwise you pay higher when you arrived. Location is good you could select restaurants outside and a lot of beautiful girls for hire since the hotel is in red district area. " |

| "We stayed here for 10 days in September.Proximity to MRT, bus and some of the cheapest , best quality food in Singapore. The room was quiet in the evening and the bathroom much larger than some more expensive Singapore hotels we've stayed in. The location was excellent, despite negative comments others have passed about Geylang. My partner and I came and went and at all hours of the day and night felt safe. The staffs service was excellent and both wireless and hard wired internet availability was an unexpected plus. Rooms were cleaned each day and 'coming home' was always a pleasure with water, coffee and light refreshments always replenished. Would stay here again and recommend it for couples, families and businessmen." |

| "A budget hotel, and that shows in every aspect. The room needed thorough refurbishment.
But the location, close to Kellang MRT, means it's good for the budget traveller who wants inexpensive accomodation and travel round the city." |

| "A good clean hotel that is fit for the budget traveller. Fairly close to the MRT transport system which can link you directly to the airport or any of the major places in Singapore. In the red light district but I always felt safe and had no troubles at all. Very helpful staff." |
