We arrived very early at the hotel 1929, about 7AM, so they weren't able to accomodate us right away. However, the staff was very friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage behind. As there are many 24HR Kopitiams around Singapore, this gave us an opportunity to eat a very early breakfast.
Hotel: The hotel 1929 itself is very nice. It's got a very funky, stylish, art-deco feel to it, like you're staying in one of those very hip and "see-and-be-seen" type of places. The lobby is very small, but the interior and their use of mirror walls makes it seem bigger than it is. The staff are very friendly (they even let me check my email for 5 minutes on their laptop)! The breakfast is standard continental fare, plus a plate of hot food (eggs, bacon, potatoes, beans).
Rooms: The rooms are very TINY! However, this was fine, since the furniture and the set-up again maximized the use of the small space. The little bathroom stall that was a toilet and shower all-in-one was a bit of a surprise at first, but it's very easy to get used to, PLUS it's very clean. The air-conditioning was fine throughout my stay. I was also very happy that they provide safes in the room to store valuables.
Location: The location of Hotel 1929 cannot be beat. Located in Chinatown, it is very close to a lot of the bars and pubs of Tanjong Pagar. There's a nearby 5-minute walk hawker center. The shops of Chinatown are just down the street, and the Chinatown MTR Station is about a 7 minute walk. The hotel is also close to Newbridge Road, where buses to Orchard are plentiful. Next door to the hotel is a Mom & Pop Convenience Store. According to the Indian lady owner, they're much cheaper than the nearby 7-11 (which was true!).
Overall: Excellent! I'll stay again!
