Hotel Review posted by Edwin Hew, Canada in November 2005

Hotel 1929 is a very slick and clean hotel in a nice area of town. The food in the area is quite good and fairly reasonably priced. The room I stayed in was tiny but comfortably furnished. Luckily, I am a fairly light traveller and did not have much luggage. Those of you with lots of big bags may want to consider a larger room. The bathroom was ultra-cool, spotless and fitted with good modern fixtures. The rainshower head was a delight after a long day in the Singapore heat. Staff at the hotel were very cheerful and friendly, especially the woman at breakfast. The breakfast itself was simple but good enough to start your day. The only complaint I have was the rather loud machine (whatever it was air conditioning or ventilation of some sort) that starts up at 7am! Also, no fitness facilities available and I couldn't find a gym nearby. For gay travellers, this hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance of two of city's hottest bars. No need for taxis back to your hotel. Good value, clean comfortable rooms in a modern hotel, the location is also good (away from the maddening and overcrowded Orchard Rd.) I would definitely stay here again.

"A good location, with friendly, helpful staff. Room facilies were good, but the room was too small. With 2 people in the room, there was no space at all. As an example, there was only a 250mm space between the washbasin and bed. There was no place for a suitcase except on the floor in front of the door. The price of AUD$160 was too high for such a room. "

"Unusual place, full of classic chairs! Great for design freaks. The room was very small but was more than made up for by excelent service, facilities and location. Highly recommended."

"Although the room and bathroom were a little small, the staff were friendly and it was a couple of minutes walk from the nearest MRT station. Breakfast wasn't a huge offering but it was ample to start the day with. There was free wireless internet but I wasn't travelling with my laptop - what was required was a dedicated internet computer in the hotel for guest's usage."

"Free access to the internet and topped-up complimentary water/coke were a big plus. Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly and helpful with a good command on English. Our room faced a street and consequently noisy. Double-glazed windows would be advantageous for rooms facing the street."
