When you arrive the Oriental appears very grand. The reception area is rather dark and formal; then you find yourself in the vast atrium, which is quite awesome.
A circular arrangement of lifts (elevators) whisks you to your room, which is large. Ours overlooked the pool area and, beyond it, the harbour. Unfortunately between the two is an area of construction, which will undoubtedly be very impressive when it is finished, in common with everything else in Singapore.
The room has everything you could need, including a huge shelf in the entrance area which accommodated both our open suitcases. The bathroom is also very well appointed, though the glass wall (with wooden venetian blind) is rather an odd touch. The sliding door to the bathroom was extremely heavy to close - I presume it needed some adjustment.
Our only other disappointment regarding the room concerned the soundproofing; we could hear some traffic noise from outside, and plumbing noises from inside.
There is a good selection of restaurants including Mortons Steakhouse, a chinese, an italian, a japanese bistro and "The Melt" World Cafe offering dishes from all over. This is also where breakfast is served. The buffet in "The Melt" was excellent, but the prices in the wine list were frightening!
Location-wise, the Oriental is perfect if you want to be near Marine Parade or the Suntec complex, but not if you want to be in the heart of the Singapore shopping experience!

| "Fantastic hotel! Great location if want to be close to attractions yet away from busy Orchard Road. Lovely staff. Breakfast unbelievable, you'll need at least an hour to get through all their delights!
Great pool area, with regular free treats, such as frozen strawberries and smoothies!
Will definately be back to Oriental hotel again.A bit pricey but definately worth it!" |
