Hotel Review posted by nigel RINGROSE, United States of America in March 2003

As you expect from the Oriental group, the Oriental Singapore is in all respects excellent. On top of this, you can enjoy a superb view of the dozens of ocean-going ships anchored offshore, either from the comfort of your room or from below, at the poolside. Surely as close to perfection as it is possible to get.

Though prices are understandably high, they are not unreasonable, and represent excellent value for money. The in-hotel "Cafe des Artistes", for example, offers an extraordinarily fine buffet for little more than one would pay in a normal restaurant.

At check-in we negotiated an upgrade to a junior suite for about US$40, and would recommend it if a similar deal is available. Aside from the dubious benefit of having two televisions, we enjoyed the extra space and the big windows.

"The staff at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Singapore are among the best I've seen. They are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is amazing; it has a great varity of food selection from accross the region. The rooms, though not big, are wonderfully designed and decorated. Ask for a harbor view room, it has an amazing view of the harbor, the Mer-lion, and the city sky line. "

"Ask for a harbour view-it overlooks the Merlion, the City, the Colonial part etc The breakfasts are superb with a huge range.Drinks in the hotel are quite pricey. Connects through the arcades to City Hall(MRT)and the Raffles Arcade."
