Would I stay at this location
again:

Most likely
The Peninsula Excelsior has for itself its great location, in the center of the old historical district of Singapore and conveniently positionned between Chinatown and the Orchard road districts . It has Fort Canning at its foot and the Marina Bay very close as well . Everything can therefore be done by foot from there . But the hotel itself is generally aged . It consists of two towers united by a common reception, the Peninsula Tower and the Excelsior tower ; I stayed in the Peninsula tower . The room was large but really aged and mouldy , however carefully looked after by a nice housekeeper who was the same everyday . The bed was new and nice with a good mattress which is I think very important . The air condition system was average, not very subtile and I suffered from throat irritation due to the bad regulation of it . The breakfast was ok but nothing special and certainly a complete lack of creativity . They managed to serve EVERY DAY some pineaple that was not ripe which, in such an area, is quite a challenge !! Many details in the hotel show that things were done on a budget in order to make profit but certainly not to please customers and deploy imagination in that direction . The staff was good generally , except at the gym wher it was nullity ... The two pools were quite nice . All in one this hotel has one of the best possible locations in Singapore but doesn't have the features of a contemporary palace . It can rather be described as an acceptable compromise .

"Very Old Hotel not maintained properly the rooms are stinking and very small not of the international standard."

"Stayed in the hotel for a wee, had ample services and facilities as I only had to sleep in it. Some noises during the night due to renovation. The keycard for the room and elevators was messed up most of the time (got stuck inside the elevator a few times). Excellent lcation as it's very near the train/bus/taxi stations in City Hall area. Breakfast was ok but the same everyday; some variety would be good. Had to pay 5dollar deposit for plug adapter (should be part of room as customers are usually travelers from abroad). No hotel transfers but cab to and from airport should be easy. For non-smokers, make sure you request for rooms on the non-smoking floors. Funan Mall is just next door so it was really convenient for last minute shopping. Highly recommended hotel for the price; no frills, just what's needed for a comfortable SG stay. "

"Stayed on the Excelsior side and was very impressed with the room. Very clean and spacious with nice views over the city and this was only a standard room. Excellent position - central for all the sights and the MRT. Good breakfast."

"The hotel rooms were a bit jaded and the reception staff were not terribly helpful, trying to get me to take a smoking room - but for the price and convenient location near City Hall MRT it would be hard to beat in Singapore. For a short stopover it was fine."
