We meant to stay in the marina area, for the boat and promenade very much appreciated by our children, at the Mandarin Oriental, which we enjoyed on other occasions, but there was no room there, as in a few other hotels in the proximity and similar range, available for the total length of our visit this time around, so the travel agent recommended the Traderst close to the quieter part of Orchard road and the Botanical park. Upon arrival I wondered if this was a mistake, though the trendy lobby had a great feel, as the check in staff was cold and unhelpful... the room felt a little too small for what should be acceptable, though I appreciated the understated elegance, uncluttered visual being of importance to me. We stayed there, my little 4 year old and I, for a week in total and felt from the next morning on, very much at home and cared for. The staff at the breakfast buffet were wonderful and paid special attention to remember our taste and preference, ensuring that every morning upon our often late arrival, all items already out from the buffet were specially bought to our table directly from the kitchen. The plus was the soy latte, specially requested the first morning, due to my intolerance to milk, which showed up automatically everyday upon my sitting down, without any further request. And travelling frequently to many corners of this world with my childrens on business and pleasure, I have to admit having rarely noticed such a pleasant, considering and tolerant attitude towards them from any of the hotels we have the use to frequent. Thus said I would greatly recommend the Traders hotel in singapore for those placing higher value on service than the size of their "sleeping quarters". We had a wonderful stay, setting aside the cold encounter upon arrival, and would most probably consider staying there again, if traveling without the entire familly (of 4).
