Hotel Review posted by byron lee, United States in July 2005

My experience staying at the Hamilton Hotel in Seoul, Korea was not a pleasurable one. What amazes me is the fact that nowhere in the hotel was an iron or ironing board. Note that the majority of guest have their clothes folded in suitcases. How do you expect anyone to go and have a nice day or night w/ their clothes being wrinkled? Now I don't know if this is a Korea thing, but every hotel in the United States has an iron and ironing board. I was very disappointed and shocked w/ the the hotel not having something like that. Another thing is, the room amenities (shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush) are charged to the individuals room when they depart. Like I had mentioned already, these thing are complimentary in the United States' hotels and i'm not sure why they're being charged for here in the ROK. That's just proposterous and ridiculous. If i'm paying that much for a hotel room, one would assume that things like an iron and ironing board would be there and shampoo and toothpaste would be complimentary. That was the last time I stay at the Hamilton Hotel in Seoul Korea, and i'd advise anyone else not to either.

| "I've stayed here many times. I live in Korea and it's a great location in Itaewon. If you are looking for a good locale next to the subway and lots of western food it's a good place to stay. If you're looking for a place to experience Korean culture then stay near Jongno, City Hall, or elsewhere. Itaewon is packed with Americans, Europeans, Middle Eastern, Japanese, etc. It's a fun place, but not the real Korean experience." |

| "I was on business for my school in New Zealand. I stayed at the Hamilton Hotel for 3 nights, and by day was going out to visit agents and students' parents. In the evenings or early mornings I used the hotel's Business Centre for emailing. Everything about the Hamilton Hotel suited me just fine. I enjoyed my stay there. Staff were helpful and friendly. I also met a range of good people among the other guests.

| "I was immediately disappointed when I walked into my room at the Hamilton. For ninety dollars a night, I expected more than a clean, version of a Howard Johnson from the sixties awaiting me. The bed, while comfortable, was covered only with a cheap woolen blanket, which was an immediate turnoff for me. The carpet, the furniture, the bathroom. Everything, while again, well-cleaned, screamed out-of-date hotel.
We were really looking forward to the pool, but unbeknown to us, the pool is open to the public and has the reputation as a bit of a party spot. On a warm day, people begin arriving shortly after the 10 AM opening time, whereupon the drinking and loud music begins. It was not the relaxing pool atmosphere that any sensible hotel would offer, but more like something you would see on a singles cruise ship.
Even little things, like the internet room, really disappointed me. The computers were ancient, and in order to access the internet (3000 won for 30 minutes), I had to go down to the front desk and sign for it (as opposed to them giving me the password and username over the phone), which wouldn't be that big of a deal I guess, if the elevators themselves weren't straight from the fifties and didn't take fifteen minutes to get from the 5th floor internet room to the 1st floor front desk and back again.
All that being said, the location, right in the middle of Itaewon, is a fantastic spot from which to enjoy all the culinary delights that this area can offer. Quick and easy access to the subway, with most of the major hot spots no more than five or six stops away.
Bottom line is, that while the Hamilton is certainly stayable, the product it offers for the price it charges certainly makes it terrible value in my books. I've stayed in love motels for 30 thousand won that will give me just as satisfying an experience. " |
