We recently stayed 6 nights at the Hamilton Hotel in Seoul. The location is good as there is a underground train station outside the main entrance to the hotel which will take you to anywhere in seoul. We arrived at about 9am and had to wait until 2pm for our room (which is normal check-in time). We were not alone as there seemed to be several people who had arrived before us who were also waiting for rooms and many who arrived after us. I noticed during our stay that this was a daily occurance and the lobby would be full with the luggage of guests arriving early awaiting rooms. We asked for a high floor(non smoking) and were given a room on the 9th floor which was also the top floor. It seems as though there are no exclusive non-smoking floors. The lifts are in the middle of the building and when you arrive at your floor (in this case the 9th floor) and exit the lifts if you turn right you will be in the non-smoking section but if you turn left all the rooms are smoking. The rooms and hall ways were all newly refurbished, well presented and very clean. The room itself is large and quite comfortable. The bathroom was almost completely plastic. The bath tub, basin etc was made from pink moulded plastic and was quite bizarre, I almost expected to see barbie pop out from behind the pink shower curtain! The ceiling is also moulded plastic, but a softer white. My main problem with the bathroom was that there was no water pressure at all during both morning and evening peak times, which made it impossible to have a shower unless you did it at lunch time or late at night. When mentioning this to the reception staff they said "oh it's because you are on the 9th floor!" so obvoiusly it is a problem they are aware of but unable to fix.We took our own shampoo, so that wasn't a problem and soap was provided by the hotel. At the end of summer (july/august) they close the pool and also turn off the air-con.We had several very warm days while we were there in october and found it frustrating not being able to use the air-con and as a result found the room stuffy. We spoke to reception and they kindly gave us an electric fan to use during our stay. The Itaewon area is OK but gets a bit sleazy at night.I really don't see any advantages in staying in this area and would recommend staying in Insadong or Jung-gu areas which are more central for both shopping and sight seeing and still have all the western chain restaurants that Itaewon offers.

"The Hamilton Hotel met our needs very well. We required a central hotel which was priced reasonably for a brief stop-over en-route to Russia (Vladivostok). Our only complaint is that the postcards left with the front desk for posting did not arrive, even though the money for stamps was left also."

"Location is one of the best in Seoul for a visiting tourist. The subway is immediately outside the hotel and many of the major tourist attractions are a quick subway ride away. The hotel is in the heart of Iteawon a fun international district with lots of shopping, international restaurants and bars. The only downside was the cleanliness of the room. The carpet is old and although the sheets were clean it was obvious that the comforter cover had not been changed or cleaned in a while. The beds were a little hard for the average westerner, but good quality and very typical of Korean hotels. I had read in other reviews that noise was a problem; our room was on the 8th floor and very quiet. If you can get this hotel for under 100$ (between at least 2 people) it is totally worth it, otherwise you may want to consider another option."

"a) It may seem petty, but having to pay for shampoo??? b) Room A/C was basically on/off, no way to control the temperature. As a result, it got VERY cold in the middle of the night. c) Noise insulation from the street was, well, not the best. We were offered a room in the "back" of the hotel ("quieter!") but it was still very noisy until well past midnight. d) finally, as was mentioned by others, there IS a pool, but it is very crowded, and guests need to pay to use it! Bottom line: while the price was good/low, as a budget hotel, you get what you pay for."

"This hotel is good for its location. Near the subway. A wide range of cuisine available. Relatively easy to get to other parts of central Seoul. Service is inconsistent. While the staff are polite, I tried three times on three separate consecutive days to get them to change the light bulbs for my bedside lamp and a standing lamp before giving up. It is not clear if their understanding of English is that poor but it's just shoddy service."

"Check-in and check-out were very fast. Location is very comfortable, there are a lot of cafes, restaurants, shops around the hotel. Subway station is very close to the entrance of the hotel. Service was good. Room was clearly enough."
