| "I was immediately disappointed when I walked into my room at the Hamilton. For ninety dollars a night, I expected more than a clean, version of a Howard Johnson from the sixties awaiting me. The bed, while comfortable, was covered only with a cheap woolen blanket, which was an immediate turnoff for me. The carpet, the furniture, the bathroom. Everything, while again, well-cleaned, screamed out-of-date hotel.
We were really looking forward to the pool, but unbeknown to us, the pool is open to the public and has the reputation as a bit of a party spot. On a warm day, people begin arriving shortly after the 10 AM opening time, whereupon the drinking and loud music begins. It was not the relaxing pool atmosphere that any sensible hotel would offer, but more like something you would see on a singles cruise ship.
Even little things, like the internet room, really disappointed me. The computers were ancient, and in order to access the internet (3000 won for 30 minutes), I had to go down to the front desk and sign for it (as opposed to them giving me the password and username over the phone), which wouldn't be that big of a deal I guess, if the elevators themselves weren't straight from the fifties and didn't take fifteen minutes to get from the 5th floor internet room to the 1st floor front desk and back again.
All that being said, the location, right in the middle of Itaewon, is a fantastic spot from which to enjoy all the culinary delights that this area can offer. Quick and easy access to the subway, with most of the major hot spots no more than five or six stops away.
Bottom line is, that while the Hamilton is certainly stayable, the product it offers for the price it charges certainly makes it terrible value in my books. I've stayed in love motels for 30 thousand won that will give me just as satisfying an experience. " |

| "The room was a nice size and well furnished. However, the TV did not work and we had to call the desk to send someone up to fix it. The towels in the bathroom had hairs on them. The bathmat in the tub was crooked and when I picked it up to straighten it, it was apparent that it had not been cleaned under in some time. When it was time to check out, the desk clerk answered the phone after starting to help us and proceeded to talk on the phone and address that customer before finishing with us. I thought she should have put that person on hold. " |

| "The Hamilton has the best location to explore Itaewon area of Seoul. It's right next to the subway station and you can walk to tons of restaurants, shops and bars.
It's good value considering the location. But taxis in Seoul are not expensive, so next time I'll probably pick a cheaper option and just take the taxi back at night.
One thing was funny: the toileteries supplied were OK, but didn't include shampoo or rinse. These were in the minibar and had to be purchased. I've been to tons of hotels in my life and this is the absolute first time I had to buy shampoo! Even in China, shampoo is included! Anyways, it was 3 USD for the kit so it won't break the bank, but still, just a strange thing!
The staff at the check in counter was very nice when I checked in (older lady, very friendly), but for check out, it was younger staff and they were very unfriendly and cold. That could be easily improved as a smile doesn't need to be from the minibar and cost 3 USD... " |
