My son and I were delighted with this hotel. The location was excellent, the staff both helpful and friendly and was just the hotel we wanted and I would certainly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Soeul. I got great help in trying to make bookings and directions etc. Very happy indeed and loved Korea and if I ever return will stay here. What more can I say.

| "The Pacific Hotel is a perfect place to stay when visiting Seoul. It was recommended to us and we only can do the same to every one else looking for a quite place to stay, but not to far away from the sights, shopping and eating places of one of Seoul's main areas, Myeon dong. We took the limousine bus from the airport which stopped right out side the Hotel Prince. A little tucked behind the Hotel Prince is the Pacific Hotel which makes it more quite but still only a minute walk to the subway and the shopping area with street markets. A 5 minute walk behind the hotel you find the cable car which takes you up to the bottom of Seoul Tower. The situation of the hotel makes it a perfect place to stay. The staff is very helpful and it also has internet facilities right next to the reception. The rooms are all a good size and clean and we had a view of Seoul tower, which we ask for when we checked in. Along the main road you can always find a taxi which is often cheaper then the underground or bus. We had a good time in Seoul." |

| "For me, the best thing about the hotel was the proximity to the Chinese consulate, as I was in Korea for one day to get a new Chinese visa. Other travelers may also find the location to be good due to the proximity to the subway, a bus stop for the airport limousine, shopping, etc.
A close second was the service. Check-in was quick, easy, and pleasant, and the man who checked me in kindly agreed to my request to check out an hour past check-out time for no extra cost. Thank you!
Check out was equally painless. The desk staff were understanding and did not charge me for a bottle of water I opened from the mini bar that turned out to be frozen solid. And the concierge was very friendly when I gave him my bags to hold for pick up later in the afternoon.
The room itself was roomy, and I appreciated being able to control the heat which had been way too high when I arrived but soon cooled down to a temperature I found comfortable. The TV worked well and had a good selection of channels in English, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. The water pressure in the shower was very good, and the combo toilet/bidet clean and in good working order.
Just a few negatives: Although it was a non-smoking room, it smelled pretty heavily of stale smoke. This is a problem I have encountered at other mid-range hotels in Korea and other countries where much of the population smokes, so I wasn't surprised -- but I still don't like it. What was surprising was that there was no free shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste in the room. The only free amenities were two bars of soap, a comb, ear swabs, a shower cap, and a sewing kit. Other amenities were available for sale in the mini bar. (TIP: The 7-11 across the street sells small bottles of shampoo, toothbrushes, razors, bottled water, etc., for much cheaper than the hotel mini bar!!) Luckily I had snagged a toothbrush & toothpaste off the airplane (love Korean Air!), but I was surprised by the lack of shampoo. I usually bring my own when I travel, but this trip was only for one night so I didn't check any bags and didn't want the hassle of finding tiny bottles to put in a zip-lock bag to carry through security.
I had one more odd problem during my stay. When I was out and about in Seoul, I called the hotel hoping to get some information I needed, but the person who answered the phone could not speak English and did not transfer me to someone who could. I was surprised as all the desk staff I had come in contact with, and the concierge, all spoke English and communicated with me very well. I confirmed with the woman on the phone that I had reached the Pacific Hotel, but that's as far as the conversation got. Not so good if they want to cater to foreign (non-Korean speaking) tourists.
I can't speak to the hotel restaurant as I did not eat there. I'm vegan and there wasn't much I could eat on the room service menu, so I bought my food outside.
I had many problems getting my Chinese visa (none of them the fault of the hotel, of course), so I will not be going back to Korea onanother visa run. That's why I answered "probably not" to the question "would you stay at this hotel again"?" |
