| "Room and balcony are big, clean and good view, conformtable to stay but the bathroom needs some improvement as it looks old like 2 star hotel furnishing. Preferable disposable slipper for more hygiene reason." |

| "I have always discounted The Grand as unaffordable, but I stayed here in early July for 3 nights then when off to the south of Taiwan. I then returned for another 3 nights. The first 3 nights was a superior room and the second was for a budget room. For the little extra, the superior room was the best value - beautiful spacious room with a great view of Taipei. If I was visiting for an exhibition on a tight budget, then I would take a budget room where as the superior room is great for a holiday stay.
Work out the difference in cost with what you pay downtown and you will be amazed!!
With the shuttle bus, the access to the MRT is easy and Taipei Main Station is then 15 minutes away. The whole atmosphere was so peaceful and the outdoor pool and the woodland walks are a great bonus. The pool is an Olympic size 9 lane pool in a wonderful setting. Breakfast cost is under £10.00 (550NTD) and the selection is massive. I have visited Taipei about a dozen times and used a number of hotels, but this will be top of my list in the future.

| "Our family went to Taipei from 7 June to 10 June 2008. The unique Chinese structure of the hotel impressed us most. It was very spacious and magnificent. When we arrived at the hotel, we asked for a connecting room as stated in our email to the hotel. However, due to the communication problem, we were offered adjacent rooms instead of connecting rooms.
Despite there was a warning sign, we still found the tiles in the bathroom very slippery. Further, the room was not sound proof, so we were disturbed by our room-mates at night and in the early morning.
As regards the quality of food, the buffet breakfast was good and there were lots of varieties. We also had our meal at "Yuen Yuen" where the dumplings and steamed buns were very tasty.
There is also a free shuttle bus service provided by the hotel which runs from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It took us around 5 - 8 minutes from the hotel to the MRT station. " |

| "Expected better service -- made a reservation for an outside room on the prestige floor, no bell service was offered (I didn't have much luggage, but at least the staff should OFFER to help). Housekeeping came to scrub my bath and sink AFTER I checked in, unbelievable!!! Shouldn't that be done before check-in?
The tea and breakfast in the prestige lounge lacked variety although the quality was not bad.
As a national class hotel, I am disappointed with their service. I have seen better service in hotels such as Shangrila and White Swan. I have completed the questionaire as I checked-out, but have received no response so far.
Facilities are also insufficient, e.g. no hair-dryer, in-room thermostat. I can understand this is probably due to the age of the hotel, it is not easy to rectify.

| "I so happy I have stayed in this wonderful hotel.
When the time I stayed at the hotel, my wife have a acident when her have a show, she turn off the cold water tape first so burn her bach ( I think the hotel may be mistaked put the level of hot water too high). When I rang to the assitant of the hotel, they come to my room immediatly and help me to apply the burn medicine for mywife (totally 4 people, 3 may be section manager and one is the hotel manager). After that The manager send us a plate of fruit.
I have travel a lot and stayed a lot hotels around the world from the moter hotel to the 5 stars hotel, My wife and I rank the Grand hotel is one of the best hotel." |

| "The Grand Hotel is conveniently located if you want to go to the Martyr's Shrine or the National Museum; however, other sights are a fair bit away. Taxis are very cheap, but it is even cheaper to take the subway.
The hotel has great ambiance and character. If you are looking for a modern hotel with every amenity, this is not the place for you. We wanted to have a room with Taiwanese character instead of the standard plain cookie-cutter room, so we were quite pleased with the furniture, huge balcony, and super comfortable bed... not to mention the room itself was absolutely huge.
The hotel is old and you can see it in the baseboards, walls, etc., but we felt this just added to the character. The bathrooms are clean, but are definitely in need of a face-lift as they reminded me of a stay at the Holiday Inn in the early 80s. Internet was not free, and in fact was quite pricey. This always disappoints me - if business / budget hotels can offer internet for free, I don't understand why deluxe hotels charge you an arm and a leg for it.
Restaurants on site are quite expensive, but that is the case with any deluxe hotel. Shilin Night Market is a few minutes away by taxi though, and you can get all kinds of cheap eats there (not to mention great shopping).
Overall, the service was fine. They let us check into the room a bit early, helped us get taxis and were helpful for most inquiries. The people at the tour desk however had a very poor level of service. We had to get information on the bullet train schedule from them, and it was like pulling teeth - they didn't try to be helpful in the least. This was the only area that we found lacking though.
If you want to experience something different and maybe see some famous people (we saw the President of Malawi who was staying there), this hotel is ok for a night. That being said, next time I will be staying at OneStar Chongqing instead - it is much cheaper, very conveniently located, has great decor and free internet.
