Date & Duration of stay : 2 – 5 December 2004 (Thurday – Sunday)
Location : 5 minutes to Saphan Taksin Skytrain (For an Asia stood at 1.65m, it took me 325 steps from the hotel’s door to the entrance to the Skytrain.), 7 minutes to the Sathorn Pier. The proximity to the skytrain has really been convenient for shopper like me, it’s possible to go back to the hotel to drop goods purchased and freshen up to continue.
Proximity to the Pier was also very convenient. On our last day of stay in Bangkok, it was possible for us to cover places we couldn’t make it earlier in our schedule along Chao Phraya River. Our flight was at 17hr-ish. We got back on land at 14hr-ish, a short walk back to the hotel, flagged down a taxi from the front of the hotel, off we head to the airport...
Room : The published price would give you only a standard room, not the room you see in the picture. Requests specified during online booking were not met.
We requested : clean room with nice view, king-size bed, and late check-out.
We got : a small dim room with only a bedside lamp. A table lamp provided on the dressing table was not working. No extra power sockets in the room. Only one to be used between the small fridge or the table lamp. Our view was the back of hotel, with the adjacent room’s balcony looking over our room (2 balconies joined in a T shape). We have to put on the curtains 24-hour to ensure privacy. With a weak bedside lamp and the curtains on, the atmosphere was really gloomy...!
Instead of king-size bed, we got an old, worn queen-size bed with all the springs felt while lying on it, and with all the springy noises ! My husband suffered greatly during his sleep !
With only 2 pillows provided in the room, both pillow cases were with stains, not that comfortable with that.
The attached bathroom was with basic toiletries and amenities; 2 shower caps, 2 bottles of shampoo, 2 pieces of soap, and 2 (“grey”) bath towels. No hand towels or face towels. Since I have been a frequent traveler and am a cleanliness freak, I have always been bringing a set of face towel and bath towel; else I don’t think I could survive on the discolored towels!
In order to travel light and the fact of different voltage on electronic goods, I omitted hairdryer in my packing; I borrowed from the frontdesk every night, but it seemed they only have one (to be shared among so many rooms!!). I got back one night at almost 23hr, requesting the same hairdryer from the frontdesk, the person on shift that night denied me telling me they don’t have one, I told him I borrowed for the past nights, he entertained me by saying he will try. I ended up having to go to bed at passed 1am with my hair still damped !!
On another request, with no denial of our request on late check-out through our online booking, I took it for granted that was approved. A day before our departure, I remembered to re-confirm on that matter, and found out that that was not granted. So, on the day of our departure, we checked-out at 9-ish and placed our luggage at the reception area, in avoiding having to rush back to check-out at noon. We ended up not able to freshen up before heading to airport. (Appreciate if asiaroom.com could inform clients if request(s) could be met before confirming booking.)
Breakfast : Everyday the same – a cup of tea or coffee, a small glass of orange juice, 2 pieces of toast bread with margarine and jam, one piece of sausage and ham, eggs with choices of fry, scramble or omelette. And a small corner table set-up with some basic salads. Good enough to keep full, but not enjoyable for everyday though.
Overall review : For the convenience I got (as a shopper in Bangkok who don't stay long in the room), I would stay there again.

"This is an excellent 'good value' hotel option if you're staying in Bangkok and want to see the city. Stay here and you'll get a modern hotel with all the essentials of a clean room, clean bedlinen, adequate breakfast and helpful service but at a far lower rate than you will pay at other establishments of a similar standard. But the real winner is the location, it gives you the freedom to explore the city easily by both river and skytrain as they are both just a few minutes walk away."

"Room was adequate. There was no refrigerator or coffee pot in the room. The neighborhood is the only really big downfall. There are no decent restaurants around it except the one in the hotel and no where to get coffee. They should at least have a coffee pot in the lobby. It is close to the business district which is convenient. I would possibly stay again."

"Room was small and dingy and lacking conveniences. Breakfast was terrible. You can find much better hotels in Bangkok for the same price."
