Four of us arrived from the airport in two taxis. The other taxi arrived within about 30 minutes - our driver didn't know the route to the hotel and arrived about 45 minutes after the first taxi. During this time a member of staff telephoned the taxi company to try and find out what had happened to us. The reception formalities were dealt with in our rooms so as not to have crowds at the reception desk.
The room was perfect with a view of the river. The bathroom had a bath and basin in one area and a step in shower and toilet in another section. The dressing gown was changed after two days. There was plenty of soap, shower gel, talc etc.
The two room butlers were friendly and helpful. Flowers were placed in the room, and every evening a orchid was placed on the bed with a card with an appropriate saying. Plenty of free bottled water was provided as well as a dish of a different fruit every day.
All staff were very friendly and greeted each guest when passing. Breakfast was usually served on the terrace with more than adequate choice. The breads were all delicious - in the other hotels we stayed in whilst in Thailand and Cambodia it was even worse than cheap supermarket sliced.
We had coffees, lunch and dinner also on the terrace and the food and service were always perfect.
Having a nurse and doctor on the premises for parts of the day was also an added facility.
The manager was on the premises every day and there always seemed to be someone taking charge in the restaurants to see that everying was running smoothly.
However good staff may be, it seems that if someone is overseeing them, things are more efficient.
For the area the hotel is expensive but for luxury it had everything anyone can need.
If you want to be spoilt and pampered and the live the life of the rich and famous, and you can afford just one or two nights, it is a lifetime experience.

| "I stayed with my sister (who treated me) at the Oriental Hotel. We had a River View room and the view was amazing. We loved the check in, not hanging around at a desk in the lobby, but straight into the hotel room. Also the butler button was very much appreciated. All the staff was extremely helpful and all looked as if they actually enjoyed working in the Oriental. Of course for the price of the rooms one would expect a certain amount of service, but we felt that this was over and above the call of duty.
The only complaint we would have as 2 ex smokers, we would have loved to go into the Bamboo Bar in the evening to listen to the Jazz singer. However, we went for a drink late afternoon and found the atmosphere in an empty bar already way too smokey.
Next morning we enjoyed the breakfast at the Verandah, a wide choice of dishes, fresh juices, coffee, a great view of the hustle and bustle on the river. After that we lounged near the swimming pool on our own 4 poster, our drinking water was replenished every time the ice started to melt. People watching was great, relaxation levels were extremely high. We had a late check out, no questions asked and no charge.
All in all, it was a great experience, recommended and we will certainly repeat it.

| "What a fabulous place to stay! Great location on the river and the regular and friendly courtesy boat to take you to the sky train. Breakfast overlooking the river was excellent. Look no further for a hotel in Bangkok." |
