"Close to the Koh San Road. Clean hotel, staff helpful. Glad booked on internat as tried to book another night whilst there and was very expensive!!"

"This was my first stay in Bkk at a low cost Hotel. Shortly summed up, this Hotel is good value for money! Perfect location for whatever you want to do in Bkk and clean rooms, a little small, but quit all right. No noise from closely located rooms when I stayed there in the low season. On the contrary very quit. The bathtub in the bathroom is a little difficult to use due to lack of warm water, but the shower was indeed very good. Safety boxes free for use in the reception. But be aware of that the Hotel charge deposit for keys, both for your room THB 1 000 and safety box THB 200. Satisfied customer. "

"A good budget hotel in a handy location - near to Khao San Rd, Grand Palace & the river. A little bit overpriced but the location makes up for it."

"I first stayed at this hotel four years ago and have been back many times since. It is in a great location for sightseeing and close to Khao San Road which has many bars and places too eat. The rooms are good and the staff are friendly. I would recommend this hotel too anyone needing a budget hotel in Bangkok."

"Old but enchanting. Near to Sanam Luang and the various Wats (for day trips) as well as Khao San Road (for some night partying). Not near any subway stations but a taxi ride to Siam Square costs only 55Baht or you can choose to take a bus (No. 15) from across the hotel. It is also a short bus ride (No. 53) from Chinatown for some shopping. "

"The location is awesome!! Within easy walking distance of Khoa San, all the major shopping markets and sights, and China Town. I mean "easy walking" if you are in decent shape, meaning you can walk up 3 flights of stairs and not get winded. If you are in any way disabled, I would NOT recommend this hotel. It is not equipped to handle wheelchairs or people who have difficulties with stairs. Overall I was very satisfied with what we got for the price. The price was very cheap and so I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. There is only 1 English channel on the TV but that's ok because I didn't spend much time in the room. The one thing that is very important to me is the shower because after a 24 hour flight nothing feels better than a great shower. And this hotel had the best showers of my entire stay in Thailand! Excellent water pressure and endless hot water. Trust me when I say that those two qualities are rare everywhere else in Thailand. The breakfast was great. Loads of different types of food and I'm a vegetarian but they had food for me. The pool was ok, but again for such a cheap room I surprised they had a pool at all. The beds were old and not too comfortable but I still slept well. The walls are thin, but if you sleep with earplugs, you won't hear a thing. Again excellent location, I didn't use a taxi or tuk tuk except to get to/from the airport. When coming from the airport it's about 45 minute drive and get a METERED taxi. Should cost you about 220 bahts plus the airport tax of 50 bahts. When returning to the airport, do NOT use the taxis waiting outside the hotel. They don't like to use the meters; instead they try to get you to pay a lump sum of 500-600 bahts! Just walk down the road with your luggage and jump in a metered taxi. You'll save loads of money. Definately recommend this hotel. "

"Great deal for 1300 THB including breakfast buffet."

"This was my 5th stay at the Royal. It is well located for getting to some of the best attractions in Bangkok including the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the river without having to take a taxi or tuk tuk. The staff is friendly and helpful. The free breakfast buffet gives you a choice between Thai and continental food -- go with the Thai."

"My group composed of 2 seniors, 3 teens and an adult stayed at the Royal Hotel from April 25-30, 2008. I chose this hotel because of its close proximity to the jetty. The pier (jetty) is around 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The Grand Palace, City Pillar Shrine, the National Museum, Wat Pho, Thammasat Univ are just a few of the attactions that can be seen near the hotel. Khao San Road is approximately 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Adjacent to the hotel is a 711 store. Just a comment for the room cleaners, they are just after the fixing of the beddings. They don't touch or arrange the things in the room. If you leave the room in disarray, when you come back, it is still the same. Hotel taxi was a bit expensive. We were lucky enough to rent an Isuzu van with driver in our travels outside of Bangkok. The price was reasonable as compared to the taxi rate being offered to us in the hotel. Anyone who wishes to avail of this rent-a-van service can look for Put. Just ask any hotel personnel and he/she knows where to contact Put (Pot). Overall, I can say that the hotel offers a good value for money if you want to see the old city. I will probably stay in this hotel if given the chance to go to Bangkok again. "

"I have stayed at the Royal on 4 separate occasions. The last time was for 6 nights. I was given a great room facing the interior pool. It was very quiet away from the street. They have a great service of storing your luggage. I stored some for one month when I was North & then some more when I was South. It was great not to carry stuff I didn't need on different portions of my 4 month trip. It is an easy walk to Banglumpoo Bhat Boat Station to take the ferry downtown & then transfer over to Skytrain. A great budget hotel and clean."
