"There was little to not like about the Tamarind Hotel. The location in the heart of the Old City is nearly perfect. With less than a 10 minute walk you can be at one of the nicest Starbucks I have ever seen - complete with outside tables on the third floor. The hotel itself is located right on the road that hosts the Sunday market. Just walk out of the hotel and start browsing. The room was clean and remained so during our entire stay. The bathroom linen was replaced when we did not elect to use the recycle feature. The bed was comfortable. The shower had been modified so that tall people will not hit their head on the shower head. I can honestly say the Tamarind has one of the best bathroom / shower designs available. The staff do their best to be pleasant and helpful at all times. The breakfast selections were ample and fresh / chilled. There are tables available for outside dining if that is your preference. The pool was always clean and the staff provide large, heavy bath towels for swimmers. As with other areas of the hotel, the staff work hard to keep the area clean. You will not be disappointed with your stay at the Tamarind. "

"This hotel is so peaceful and beautiful, with gorgeous Lanna style architecture in the middle of the old town of Chiang Mai. We found it very convenient for wandering the main temples and museums and not far from the river and night market area - all accessible by foot. It was hot so we made good use of the lovely pool environment. Breakfast was small but good quality and lovely service. We had dinner at the hotel one night and the food was delicious. There was a special on in the spa so my husband and I both had a treatment there which was beautiful and relaxing - the ambience is something else. I felt all of the staff at this hotel were friendly, professional and welcoming and I have no hesiatation recommending it."

"This was our second stay at this hotel, once again the service and sttention received by all the staff was fabulous. The location for us was brilliant, as we like walking we never minded that it was approx 10 minutes to get to the night markets - this hotel is like a haven in the middle of the city and nice and close to the airport. Our room was spotless and very clean, liked everything about it. Will be back again. "

Comments:

A very different sort of hotel - clear eco-awareness and (pretty successful) attempt to recreate traditional Thai architecture and atmosphere. Lovely atmosphere, very quiet and restful. Rooms on small side but wonderful supply of lotions etc in bathroom - good laundry service - very nice breakfasts - quiet pool - great location in centre of old town - pleasant 20 mins walk from night market - good range of coffee and food places all around, and a selection of restaurants just opposite - we loved the Tamarind and we loved Chiang Mai - inc the elephant trekking and bamboo rafting - a welcome change from Bangkok (which we also enjoyed)!
