It's my 2nd visit to samui and this Hotel and stayed here in July 2007...Hotel hasn't been upgraded since my last stay in 2001...I stayed in a garden villa and found that the rooms and bathrooms are getting rather shabby for a 4 star rated hotel...The hotel is located at the north side of chaweng beach, fairly quiet, which is fair but you need 2 catch taxi's to and from the hotel in the evenings for dinner etc or just hire motorbikes from the hotel itself...Hotel prices for drinks, meals, massages are expensive but there are people selling drinks etc and massage spots on the beach at cheaper prices so I didn't use the hotel facilities...The actual beach area is protected by a reef which is great but was very disappointed with the tides as during the day at this beach the tide is out so you are unable to swim in the sea, so had to swim in the pool only which was ok...The pool area is pretty neat, nothing spectaular and if you plan on lazing around the pool need to get there early in the morning otherwise the loungers are all taken up...Although the beach has sufficeint loungers available during the day...This hotel has a nice dining area (beachfront) for breakfasts etc although the breakfasts themselves are pretty much the same as any other hotel, quite boring...Overall not a bad hotel choice...The island of Samui itself has also changed a lot since my last visit, become more commercial and with that obviously more expensive, but still pretty rustic and although the weather over my 2 week stay wasn't the best I've ever experienced in Thailand, was still hot enough to catch a great tan...I wasn't as impressed as Phuket with the shopping in Samui and more expensive than I expected...There are also some great restaurants in Chaweng but you need to be selective...The beer is always cold and the cocktails are great, so overall a nice relaxing island to visit...and leaving Samui it has the most gorgeous little airport in the world, very islandy!!!

| "Although dated, it was comfortable and located in a quiet garden away from the general Koh Samui traffic.
The restaurant is good value. Overall an ideal getaway at a mid range price. " |

| "THe hotel was located very close to the shopping strip of Chaweng... far enough from the night life to not be noisy. THe only problem with the location was the the beach out the front of the hotel was horrible - if you are a beach person you need to use the facilities of the sister hotel Beachcombers - the hotel drives you there whenever you want and it is in walking distance as well.
The staff at the hotel were great especially the bell boys.
They forgot to tell us in the induction that to obtain hot water when having a shower you need to have the air con on for a little while so the first shower was a cold one.
Also the plumbing may be a bit of a problem - our toilet overflowed once as there was a problem with the main plumbing.
However the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The pool was great
Most of the staff spoke English well enough to communicate. the breakfast was superb.
the only reason I wouldn't stay there again is because if the beach out the front.
if you aren't a beach person and want a reasonably priced hotel - stay here.

| "This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Blue Lagoon. The hotel rooms suit us perfectly because we are a family of 2 adults and a 10 year old daughter and each room contains a double and a single bed.
Although the rooms are not large, they are perfectly adequate and there is also a balcony outside each room. The hotel has a lovely swimming pool and is very kid-friendly. The location of the hotel is right on the beach. The water is shallow, agin perfect for young children. Breakfast is a buffet consisting of hot and cold dishes and is pretty good.
Compared to other hotels nearby, the rates are reasonable. Best of all are the staff who are very friendly and helpful. I recommend the hotel highly." |
