Hotel Review posted by Kevin Robinson, United Kingdom in July 2005

What a wonderful place! Have stayed at the Rayong Resort 5 times now. Staff are absolutely great, food is good although a little pricey. Have stayed in Superior rooms, Jnr Beach Suites and the Jnr Suites. Superior rooms and jnr Beach were good. I was a little disappointed with the Jnr Suite. Although it was big enough to hold a ball in, the balcony was very small in comparison to the other rooms we have stayed in ( probably about 2x2 metres)

The hotel is not popular with Western tourists but appears to be used more as a convention centre by the "locals". Have often been by the beautiful pool on our own and had the pick of around 30 sun loungers.

Two beaches, one is not suitable for swimming though as the beach is very rocky. The other is great.

Only draw back is that it is remote and you could be on site for the duration of your stay, which can make it a bit expensive. However if you work on the staff that shouldn't be a problem. We got a lift to the local Makro one year so that we could buy our own beer to drink at a fraction of the hotel price. We were even told they were happy for us to drink it in the bar area!!!!

On the occasions we have been we have always been offered a free sunset cruise around Koh Samet on the hotels own boat. Cannot comment as to how nice it was as in 5 years we've been it never sailed at sunset( the sea was too choppy!)

"Hotel was very beautiful with nice surrounding garden area. Room was spacious with nice terrace overlooking the sea. Service also was good but a few things bothered us quite a bit. Prices were high at the restaurants, room didnīt have a safetybox but most of all on the day of departure we asked if we could check out 2 pm instead of 12 noon.....it was not possible even if the hotel honestly was occupied less than 50%. That really left us with a bad feeling even if the property itself had impressed us before that. We hope that hotelīs personel will be given some flexibility in cases like this. Iīm quite sure nobody cleaned our room before 2 pm anyway, so it was not really a big favour to ask specially whan hotel was half empty. Anne Pohjalainen, Finland"

"The location is very beautiful and amenities at the hotel are good (especially the pool). However, it was difficult to leave the hotel to go into the town because taxis are few and far between. The rooms could also do with an upgrade."

"Whilst living in Thailand we often went to Rayong Resort to use the restaurants and pool. It is an idylic hotel in an idylic setting. Our first ever stay however was a disappointment. The 'deluxe' room was buzzing with mosquitos when we checked in. Apart from the carpet, the furnishings were well worn and somewhat shabby. The main restaurant was closed but the bar food was ok. Although there were only a dozen or so guests we were all put on the same wing, same floor, our 'neighbour' was a loud Thai who seemed to use the bathroom every hour on the hour and turned on the TV full blast at 4.00 am. I shall certainly return to the hotel but not to stay overnight "

"I have two complaints which I mentioned in the "satisfaction survey form" left in each room: I find unusual and frankly outrageous to be asked to pay 100 baht per person to use what is pompously called an exercise room: there were only 3-4 devices there when I checked it out. I wonder why they have to have grass cut on Sundays when the resort is full of people who might prefer to enjoy the premises without being bothered by the noise and the pollution caused by the grass-cutting tractor. Why not doing this during the week? As often in Thailand, the convenience of the management takes precedence over the guests'comfort."
