First held in 1992, the WOMADelaide Festival, Adelaide is an annual world music and dance festival held in Botanic Park, as part of the WOMAD (World of Music, Arts, and Dance) series of music events. In 1992, the WOMADelaide was held as part of the Adelaide Festival of Arts. From 1993, the WOMADelaide Festival has been run every two years so as not to coincide with the Adelaide Festival of Arts. Since 1996, the management of the WOMADelaide was undertaken by the Arts Projects Australia. The WOMADelaide became an annual festival in 2003. In 2004, the WOMADelaide Foundation was set up as a non-profit body to present special projects for remote arts communities. Situated north of the Adelaide CBD, the 34 ha Botanic Park is the venue of the WOMADelaide Festival remains fenced off for the duration of the festival, thus providing enormous room. The main stages are set up around a compound with three of them facing the backstage area. Three additional smaller stages are the Zoo Stage, The Moreton Bay Stage and the Speakers' Corner. There are virtual arts exhibitions at the WOMADelaide Festival including a KidZone, a Global Village market area with over 100 food, crafts display stores and bars. All the front-stage areas are smoke-free, although restrictions are hardly maintained. WOMADelaide Festival, Adelaide draws performers from all over the world, with a special emphasis on traditional music and performances of various cultures, although contemporary and popular acts are also included. The WOMADelaide runs from 6pm to 1am on Friday, from 12 pm to 1 am on Saturday and 12 noon to 12 midnight on Sunday. Artists at the WOMADelaide Festival, Adelaide lead workshops and discuss aspects of their performances on the smaller stages. There had also been roving feats with large fire installations at the WOMADelaide Festival, Adelaide, with more than 300 groups participating from 80 countries.
