Adelaide is a coastal city. It is located on the extreme south of the main land of Australia. It basically located on the shores of the Southern Ocean. The city occupies a total area of 1826.9 square kilometers. The metropolitan region of the city occupies a land area of 870 square meters and is located at 50 meters above the sea level.
The geography of Adelaide shows that the city is located on the Adelaide Plains. In fact, this marvelous city is situated to the north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, with the Gulf of St Vincent on one side and Mount Lofty Ranges of the other side. Mount Lofty Ranges is low-lying mountain range, which is situated on the eastern side of the Adelaide. The mountain is located in the Adelaide Hills and is the highest point in the state. The entire city of Adelaide stretches from the small town of Gawler, in the north, to Sellicks Beach in Aldinga, in the south. This entire stretch is about 90 kilometers.

Most of these marshlands are located near the coastal part of the city. After the British settlements, much of the bushlands were cleared. One can also find numerous small rivers, streams and creeks flowing through this region. The Onkaparinga and the Torrens are the two of the most important rivers of the city. They are also the major water suppliers of the city.
