The Adelaide City Council takes all the decisions on the basis of meetings, which are held on a fortnightly basis. The meetings are held on Monday nights. The public and the media can participate in these meetings. However when confidential matters are being discussed, like legal issues, then the general people and the media are not allowed. All meetings of the council are held in the Town Hall. Agendas and minutes of these meetings are easily available from the customer center.

The city council has adopted the Armorial Flag, as the flag of the city of Adelaide. This flag was approved and adopted by the council in the year 19882 and can be seen fluttering outside the Town Hall. The first Mayor of the Adelaide City Council was James Hurtle Fishes. He held office from 1840 to 1842. At present the mayor is Michael Harbison.
