The Christ Church, Adelaide was built during the middle of the nineteenth century. The strong desire of the church going people of North Adelaide to make a place where they can pray and worship was the main motive behind building this church. They started a church building fund in the year 1841, and in 1848, the construction of the Christ Church began under the leadership of a gentleman named Dr. Augustus Short.
The Christ Church in Adelaide still retains its old structural and architectural features, though a large number of extensions have been made to it. In fact, the church is one of the most important heritage structures of the city. The church features a large number of stained glass windows. The church is surrounded by a fabulous garden that adds to the tranquil atmosphere of this religious structure. The Church has a sanctuary where you can get to see the original Bishop's Chair, dating back to ancient times. It is the biggest attraction of this grand church.
Prayer services are regularly held in the Christ Church. Most of the services are taken from the Book of Common Prayers. The church choir performs regularly over here and enthralls the worshippers with their melodious voice and beautiful songs. The Christ Church, Adelaide is open on all days of the week. Its operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can attend the Holy Communion every Sunday or the Thursday Holy Communion held I the inside chapel at 10:30 in the morning. Listening to the priest and the choir in this ancient religious structure is an experience that you surely wouldn't want to miss.
