Located adjacent to the Torrens River amidst the Adelaide Hills and the Gulf of St Vincent, it is probably Australia's best-preserved capital city. Adelaide offers a lot of tourist's attractions. Light's Vision, Adelaide is one of the famous tourist attractions here. Light's Vision, Adelaide has a history. Colonel William Light was the first surveyor-general of Adelaide in South Australia. He was the person to design and frame a layout and a development program for this wonderful city. Legend goes on that Colonel William Light in 1837 stood on Montefiore Hill in North Adelaide and signaled at what would one day become the hub of business in Adelaide, and at once started planning for the city. This eventful moment is immortalized by a statue made by Glaswegian sculpture Birnie Rhind on Montefiore Hill. This statue was originally shifted from its position in Victoria Square in 1938. Today, a bronze statue of Light still stands on Montefiore Hill and peers down over the ever-changing cityscape of Adelaide. One very important plan of Light was that the city was positioned out in squares, creating a grid-like pattern that has been an asset to the city in recent times. This design has reduced the chances of congestion, or grid-lock. Though Lights decision was initially disliked by residents including South Australia's first governor, John Hindmarsh, he later managed to convince him. In his journal of 1839, Light wrote "I leave it to posterity to decide whether I am entitled to praise or to blame." Today Light's design is acknowledged as one of the most practical and beautiful in the world. The spot from where you can see this panorama and discover his statue with outstretched arm is known as Light's Vision. Light's Vision, Adelaide is a popular destination for the tourist.
