In the late 1890's a Military Railway was designed to run from Glenelg along the foreshore to Largs with the aim to link both Fort Largs and Fort Glanville. Unfortunately the service only progressed to West Beach. After nearly 100 years a railway has been built on a small scale thought the purpose behind it is totally different. The Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway, Adelaide is constructed by the Port Adelaide Enfield and Woodville Councils and operated by the National Railway Museum volunteers. This specially planned steam locomotive Bill haulages carriages along the two kilometer coastal route from the Semaphore Jetty to Fort Glanville and the adjacent Caravan Park. The return journey takes nearly about 40 minutes. But it varies according to the demand of the carriage. If you have your kids then take them to the National Railway Museum in Port Adelaide, which has a huge collection of historic rolling stock. The kids will enjoy it. Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway operates everyday during holidays and public holidays. It is open from 11 am to 4 pm in the evening. But it is open on weekends only from October to April.
