History of Alice Springs
Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville
From the very primitive age Alice Springs and the adjoining parts of central Australia were the homeland for the Arrernte Aboriginal people. Thereafter the place got inhabited by the settlers and the locals. It was because of the Aboriginals the place was called as Mparntwe. Even today the place is known by the same name to its original settlers.
The naming of the town has been an interesting incident. Till 1930's the place was officially known as Stuart. The name Alice Springs was given to the Telegraph Station which was the original site for the white settlers in Central Australia. But the dual naming created problems for the administration in Adelaide and the total place was officially given the name of Alice Springs on 31 August 1933.
The famous transportation facilities in the town grew up by the year 1929 with the liking of Alice Springs with Adelaide. This was a golden era in the Alice Spring's history as the Mechanized trains replaced the Camel trains. The motor and air transport developed thereafter making Alice Springs a well connected spot to different parts of Australia.
