Situated in the heart of Australia, Alice Springs is equidistant from the two nearest population centres - Darwin to the north and Adelaide to the south, both of which are more than 1,300 Kilometers from Alice Springs, taking around two hours to reach by jet passenger aircraft. The Alice Springs Airport is a modern fully air-conditioned terminal located 14 kilometers to the south of the township of Alice Springs and sprawls over approximately 3,550 hectares of land. It provides facilities for domestic and regional passenger airlines and for general aviation and helicopter traffic. There is no curfew applicable on ASA and it operates 24 hours a day.

The main facilities at Alice Springs Airport (ASA) include:
- A 10,000 square metre terminal building completed in 1991
- A two runway system comprising a main runway of 2,438 metres and one general aviation runway of 1,133 metres
- A general aviation area consisting of apron parking for approximately 70 aircraft and a number of maintenance hangars;
- Nine aircraft parking stands on the main apron; with - overlaying - secondary positions providing for very large aircraft (eg B747/777) and - emergency - parking or - planned - bad weather diversions
- Refueling and other aeronautical service related facilities.
