Want to have a great view of Alice Springs? Along with being a good starting point for any town tour, it's Anzac Hill which offers an excellent view of the whole area. Nowhere can the growth of Alice Springs from a clutch of houses to a major tourism and commercial hub of thousands of people be better noticed than from the panoramic lookout on Anzac Hill. The word Anzac stands for the abbreviation of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. These army men and women fought in the great wars. Want to shop? Just descend the hill and walk through the Todd Mall which awaits you with a store from second-hand books to camping equipment, local opals to organic liquorice. There is a monument on the hill, which was designed and dedicated by Reverend Harry Griffiths, then President of the Returned Soldiers League, and unveiled by the one time Telegraph Station operator, and later first Postmaster of the Alice Springs Post Office, Dudley Adamson. The local public donated money for raising this monument. This Hill also serves as a Geodetic Fundamental Point for Surveyors. The Lion's Walk, from opposite the Catholic Church is for the more energetic travelers.
