Art for art's sake manifests itself truly in Adelaide Festival of Arts. Art for art's sake is a European concept, purely a byproduct of Industrial Revolution. Art documents and eternalizes moving images, this concept breathed fire to Adelaide Festival of Arts. Art is not a presentation of Moral Tenets, rather Art is the medium used by Artist to give vent to their feelings and artistic exuberances. Art animates the dead soul, illuminates the dark recesses of human thought, questions the common sense, entertains and sharpens the intellect and shocks viewers to self awareness. Adelaide Festival of Arts unleashes ideas, and dreams which questions existing art forms, transcending all barriers of Artistic and Societal conformity.

The Adelaide Festival of Arts first commenced from 12th March 1960 and closed curtains on 26 th March. In 1958, Sir Lloyd masterminded and kick started the Festival that would enrich the Cultural Scenario of Australia. The festival is celebrated bi-yearly on every alternate years starting at the end of February and moving on to March. One of the most acclaimed Cultural Festival of the world- Adelaide Arts Festival is illustrious with the myriad forms of Arts showcased by local, National and International Artists. The festival has interesting venues in Adelaide like the avenues, which are happening cultural Hotspots! River Torrens, The Adelaide Festival Center, of late Elder Park is the nucleus of Adelaide Festival of Arts celebrations.

The South Australian Government is responsible for the phenomenal growth of Adelaide Arts Festival, which has set an example for all Festivals in Australia.

The 2006 Adelaide Festival of Arts presented some of the world's most ground- breaking art forms, as well as traditional ones. The Festivity was on from March 3 to 19, the Adelaide Festival included 72 events, some 1200 performing artists with more than 130 performances.

Visual arts made a renewed emphasis and incorporated outdoor activities, with 31 free events.

PowerPoint and robotic sculpture was another chief attraction of this event where Multi-media artist David Byrne mesmerized the viewers. Mexico-born New York artist Chico Mac Murtrie choreographed robotic performances.

Byrne performed in Here Lies Love presented as a Song Cycle with Byrne joining the band and singers on stage.

Sydney critics adjudged scenes from the Life of Francis Bacon as best mainstream production in early 2006.

Writers' Week was held from March 5 to March 10 at Women's Gardens, Adelaide. Dutch and Indian writers were in focus during the week. The Writers Week, true food for the intellect was unanimously successful.
