Australia - Adelaide - Brisbane - Alice Springs - Cairns - Canberra - Darwin - Gold Coast - Hobart - Melbourne - Newcastle - Perth - Port Douglas - Launceston - Sydney - Townsville

The Brisbane Tramway Museum at Ferny Grove, Queensland is owned and operated by a non-profit organization that is run totally by volunteers. All tourists will definitely find this interesting as it would bring the old world charm as they ride on the tram cars that have been restored.

Brief history of the Brisbane Tramway Museum, Ferny Grove

The Brisbane City Council in June, 1968 announced that it wanted to convert the tramways to a bus transport system. A public meeting was immediately held with the intention of preserving and representing the city's tram cars and thus the Brisbane Tramway Museum Society was established. The organization was able restore about two trolley buses and twenty four tram cars. A suitable site was found and the museum was opened for public viewing in June 1980 at Ferny Grove.

The excursions organized by the Brisbane Tram Museum

The excursions organized are actually a wonderful learning experience as the children get to experience and touch the type of street transport that were familiar to their grandparents.

There are many volunteers who have sound knowledge of the transport history of Brisbane and they provide the information to those who come for these excursions. They have years of experience in handling large groups and they really are capable and efficient to make the visit to the Brisbane Tram Museum both informative and entertaining.

The children are allowed to touch the refurbished tram cars and this experience is really enjoyable for them.

The timings and fares

The Brisbane Tram Museum is open on the Sundays from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. You can contact the Museum at 3351 1776.

The museum offers group and chartered bookings on the week days but giving notice ensures a more comfortable journey. There are Educational packages for school students and tea is also available on request.
