Brief history of the Brisbane Tramway Museum, Ferny Grove
The Brisbane City Council in June, 1968 announced that it wanted to convert the tramways to a bus transport system. A public meeting was immediately held with the intention of preserving and representing the city's tram cars and thus the Brisbane Tramway Museum Society was established. The organization was able restore about two trolley buses and twenty four tram cars. A suitable site was found and the museum was opened for public viewing in June 1980 at Ferny Grove.

The excursions organized are actually a wonderful learning experience as the children get to experience and touch the type of street transport that were familiar to their grandparents.
There are many volunteers who have sound knowledge of the transport history of Brisbane and they provide the information to those who come for these excursions. They have years of experience in handling large groups and they really are capable and efficient to make the visit to the Brisbane Tram Museum both informative and entertaining.
