With its wide range of maritime displays that tells us a lot about the history of Queensland, the Queensland Maritime Museum in Brisbane has been attracting more than 35000 visitors every year.

Features of the Queensland Maritime Museum:

• The Queensland Maritime Museum records the development of navigation and marine vessels since the days of the early settlers. There are various models of boats, ships and other sailing vessels like the Pandora, the Bounty and the Lucinda.

• There is also a vast display of marine engines ranging from the small steam engines to the colossal submarine engines and also the triple expansion steam engines that was used in ships like Diamantina and Forceful.

• The museum also comprises of a library that stocks documents, pictures and other relevant artifacts from the old days. There are several maps that show how the navigators at such an early stage had made accurate charts. Also, browse through the various books on maritime history that are stored in the library.

• Learn how the lighthouse technology developed from the early oil wick burners to the modern equipments that we use in the present day. The lighthouse tower from the ex-Bulwar Island is at display in the Museum.

• The South Brisbane's Dry Dock is also a major attraction of the Queensland Maritime Museum. This dock served the people of Queensland for almost a hundred years and was significant for both transportation of people and goods across the Brisbane River. The Dry Dock was opened in 1881 and the first vessel was docked on 10 th September 1881. Today the gigantic Diamantina stands at the Dry Dock both of which are possessed by the Queensland Maritime Museum. The Guided Tours allow you to explore the bottom of the dry Dock as well as the ship that stands by it.

• Apart from these exhibitions, there are also various activities held by the Queensland Maritime Museum for the school children.
