The Brisbane City Council is the administrative body for the city which is the capital of Queensland. The city Council for Brisbane governs the greater part of the metropolis and the population is larger when compared to any other Local Government area in the whole of Australia. The Brisbane City Council is the amalgamation of all the local towns, shires and cities that were combined together in 1924. The main offices and the Central Library of the Council are located at Brisbane Square, 266, George Street. The history of the Brisbane City Council The Brisbane City Council was formed after a forced conglomeration of twenty smaller councils and this happened in 1925. - Hamilton
- Toowong
- Windsor
- Ithaca
The shires- - Enoggera
- Yeerongpilly
- Belmont
- Moggill
- Stephens
- Balmoral
- Tingalpa
- Sherwood
- Toombul
- Taringa
- Coorparoo
- Kedron
Besides these there were other semi- autonomous government agencies like the Brisbane Tramways Trust that were taken under the Brisbane Council. Power structure The power in the Brisbane City Council has a somewhat unusual structure with the power vested among the executive Lord Mayor, a Civic Cabinet consisting of the chairpersons of the seven standing committees taken from the membership of Council and the very powerful Lord Mayor. Along with these two major bodies there is also the parliamentary style council in which there are 26 councilors. Each councilor represents the single-member wards that contain 23,000 voters. The committees There are seven standing committees and these also form an important part of the structure of the Brisbane City Council. The standing committees are- - Finance Committee

- Water and City Businesses Committee
- Roads, Trans Apex and Traffic Committee
- Environment and Sustainability Committee
- Urban Planning and Economic Development Committee
- Public Transport Committee
Besides these committees there are the business units too which the Brisbane City Council manages on a commercial basis.
