In the 1993 census it was found out that there were about two koalas in one hectare of land. But this had to be a suitable habitat. In total there were about 70 koalas in all. There was a census that was recently held and approximately one koala was found in one hectare of land. The Point Halloran Conservation Reserve is all the more suitable for the koalas due to the presence of a number of factors. The reserve has large numbers of eucalyptus and the melaleuca trees. Because the area is filled with red gum trees such as these the area can support these creatures in a better manner.
