If you are a cinema lover and planning to visit Brisbane, drop in at any Greater Union Birch Carroll & Coyle cinema hall. The Greater Union is actually a chain of cinema multiplexes. Run by the Amalgamated Holdings Limited, this chain is a tough competitor of other multiplex chains such as: Hoyts and Village Cinemas. The logo of Greater Union is a five sided black star.

The Greater Union cinema halls in Queensland are however known as Birch Carroll and Coyle. The two cinema halls, located at the Myer Centre Complex and the old Regent Theatre building in the greater Central Business District of Brisbane, was previously owned by Hoyts. But since 2006 when Hoyts pulled out from these halls, the entire control then shifted to Birch Carroll and Coyle. They are now known as Greater Union Birch Carroll & Coyle Cinema, Brisbane.

There are three multiplexes in Brisbane that are currently operated by Birch Carroll and Coyle. The multiplexes are named as: Gold Class cinemas, Indooroopilly and Garden City. The Gold Class cinemas are however the most expensive multiplex in Brisbane. You can watch your favorite film in the hall in a reclining chair. This hall has a licensed bar and traditional snacks are served at the table. Apart from that, you can also have a good meal in this multiplex.

The Gold Class cinema is the only cinema of its kind where you can watch your favorite film while sipping into the choicest of wines. The seat is a pampering one. You can even place your legs on the foot rest and watch the film while being served with mouth watering delicacies by the waiters. The best part is that you can even schedule the time when the waiters will bring your ordered food items for you. The menu includes: canapés, dips, desserts, pizza and of course cocktails. The Gold Class hall has wall to wall screens and state-of-the-art digital sound system. There are two chairs in each row with a wine cooler between each pair.
Founded in 1910, the Greater Union developed a relationship with Queensland's Birch, Carroll and Coyle. The partnership survives even today. Distributed throughout Australia with presence in places like: Adelaide, Canberra, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria; Greater Union provides one of the best movie watching experience in its multiplexes.
