One of the oldest cinema halls in Brisbane, Hawthorne cinema in Brisbane was built in the 1940s. The cinema hall, in keeping with the modern times, was later transformed into a multiplex. The multiplex is however a small one with only three screens.

The halls in this multiplex are named as Cinema 1, Cinema 2 and Cinema 3. Cinema 1 is however the original auditorium with a very large curved screen. Cinema 1 can house 510 people. Save the IMAX cinema, no other auditorium in Brisbane has that large projection screen.
