Arts theatre in Brisbane is a community theatre. Starting from acting to administration, this company allows members of the community to get a first hand experience in all stages of the theatrical production. The other areas of production include: stage management, direction, set design, lighting design, costume design. The theatre has been a breeding ground for professional actors and actresses like: Geoffrey Rush, Jennifer Flowers, Shane Porteous, Bernard King, and Lucas Stibbard among others.
There are mainly three types of production held at Arts theatre in Brisbane. They are: Main House, Early Week and Children's Theatre.
The Main house production takes place between Wednesday and Saturday nights. Starting at 8 o' clock at night this production runs for 3 to 6 weeks.
Starting from Sunday, the Early Week production runs till Tuesday. For the starting time please contact the theatre enquiry division.
Children's plays are performed during school holidays on Saturday at 2 pm. The performance timings however change during Tuesdays to Fridays. With plays starting from 11 am, children can meet their favorite characters after the show is over.
The price of tickets varies depending on the type of production. You have to shell out 22 Australian Dollars for a Mainhouse Productions adult ticket. The same ticket costs 16 Australian Dollars for an Early Week series.
12 Australian Dollars is the price for watching on an adult ticket in Children's Theatre.
There is however a concession offered in each of these three types of production for a group of 10 people or more.
The theatre has seating arrangements for 151 people. The seats are all very comfortable and makes for a very pleasurable play viewing experience. The auditorium is air-conditioned and as expected is a strict non-smoking zone. The theatre complex however has a licensed bar of its own which serves a host of alcoholic beverages. Opened 1 hour before the play begins; the bar however does not serve liquor during children's shows.
The theatre holds regular workshops for both adults as well as for children. Run by professionals, the classes provide a unique opportunity for the trainees to learn from the decades of professional experience by the masters in the field. The classes are however to be paid for and since only a limited number of seats are available; please book in advance. The theatre has also been a launching pad for many young children who later stepped into the world of professional acting. Many of them later moved on to QUT, USQ and NIDA.
There is good news for the physically challenged people. The theatre has wheelchair access facility for the disabled. Apart from that, some disability parking spots are also there to further scale down their inconvenience. Street parking facility is there for normal people.
