Built in 1969, the Twelfth Night Complex is a famous entertainment venue of Brisbane. The theatre now stands on a land which was donated by Majorie and Brian Johnstone. It began its journey of producing much acclaimed quality plays as a government owned playhouse. The Queensland government however sold this theatre to private ownership in 1980. Bought by Gail Wiltshire in 1988, this venue has the unique distinction of being the only privately owned theatre in Brisbane. Completely independent of any kind of government subsidy, this theatre runs solely on the revenue earned by selling the tickets. The people of Brisbane contributed generously to buy the theatre and it is because of their contribution that the theatre is still surviving even today. The Twelfth Night Complex theatre has a gracious exterior as well as an equally eye catching interior. The theatre is however not just a well decorated venue. The theatre has been churning out some of the most popular productions since it became operational in 1969. Some of the famous plays held at this theatre are: Bedside Manners, It Runs in the Family, Are You Being Served, and A Passionate Woman. The Twelfth Night Complex theatre is located just outside the city limits of proper Brisbane. This beautiful theatre, located in the inner Brisbane suburb of Bowen Hills, is just a mere 5 minutes drive away from the city centre. Located just opposite the Bowen Hills Train station, the theatre can be reached conveniently by train. The theatre has off-street car parking facility on Abbotsford Road, Bowen Hills and you can also park your car on road around Cintra Road. Boasting of 520 seats, all seats are equally good and makes for a good viewing of the plays. The reputation of this theatre is however mainly due to its quality productions. Every show is a good show and worth the money. The theatre has been graced by performers like Rowena Wallace, Sigrid Thompton, Judie McGrath and Penny Downie. Shows are held almost everyday (except Monday); though the show timings are different. Except Saturday and Sunday when the shows start from 2 in the afternoon, the show starts from 8 pm on other days. The tickets are priced at close to 50 Australian dollars but if you go there in a group consisting of more than 10 people, you will get discounts on every ticket purchased. So if you are a theatre lover and want to watch some of the really standardized plays, the Twelfth Night Complex in Brisbane is where you should head out to.
