Located near the coast of Pacific Ocean Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland is the third largest city in Australia. This city has one of the highest population densities in Australia. Bordered by the Brisbane River, the central business district is easily reached by the Brisbane ferry service. The Brisbane River serves as a major transportation gateway for the people. As the central business district is located in a curve of the river, commuters use the Brisbane ferry service for going to offices. It is therefore natural that the ferry services become overcrowded during the rush hours. However, the ferry services are also much liked by the tourists. This is due to the fact that a cruise along the river is the best way to avoid traffic congestion while soaking up the scenery of the city. The Brisbane ferry service first started operating in the year 1844. Back then the ferry service was privately run; but in 1893, the Brisbane City Council took over the control of ferry services. The council however leased the ferry service to the private operators. The city now has two major private ferry service operators: the City Cat and the City Ferry. A joint venture between a French company Transdev and Brisbane City Council, the City Cat service runs along the Brisbane River with 14 stops along the course. Some of the stoppages are: New Farm Park, Kangaroo Point, West End etc. The City Cat catamarans are a favorite among the tourists. Not only the boats run faster but major tourist attractions such as: the Story Bridge and South Bank Parklands come on the way. Operated by Metrolink Queensland, City Ferry service is a Brisbane inner city service. The area of service covered by this service is smaller compared to its competitor- the City Cat. With stops at Kangaroo point, Brisbane central business district among other important locations, this service is availed by commuters as well as tourists. The city offers many interesting locales. Some of them are the following: South Bank Parklands, the Roma Street Parkland and the Bisbane City Botanic Gardens. The city's most famous tourist attraction is however the Story Bridge. It is a marvelous piece of architecture. Apart from that, this bridge is just one of three bridges in the world that can be climbed on foot. So if you are into adventure, do not forget to climb up. The breath taking skyline of Brisbane atop this bridge is worth your try. Though the city has an extensive network of transportation system, the Brisbane ferry service is what you must avail. To watch the reflection of the setting sun in the water is an experience to treasure for the entire lifetime.
