ABOUT BISHOPSBOURNE, BRISBANE:

Formerly the Anglican archbishops' residence in Brisbane Bishopsbourne is a handsome single storey stone mansion in the western suburb of the city. This historic building, built in 1869, has been home to Anglican Archbishops right down to the present incumbent, Philip Aspinal. In 2006 Bishopsbourne was sold off by the Church. The present Archbishop now stays eleswhere with his family. A simple, roughhewn chapel stands adjacent Bishopsbourne in Brisbane . Both buildings are now part of St Francis Theological College.

Bishopsbourne is located on the western outskirts of Brisbane on Milton Road and can be reached via Milton Road and Baroona Road.

HOW TO REACH BISHOPSBOURNE:

Bishopsbourne can be reached easily by train or bus from anywhere within Brisbane:

• Take a train from Central or Roma train station and get down at Milton train station.

• Alternatively, take bus 470 from the city

TIMING: Bishopsbourne is open Monday to Saturday.

• The chapel adjacent the mansion is a study in contrast and its simple rough hewn stone breathes the absolute purity and simplicity of medieval times.

Bishopsbourne was nominated as as a heritage site in 2006.
