The Cairns Tropical Garden Show is held every year for the past 22 years, in Far North Queensland. With lofty ideals of promoting horticultural activity in the region, a group of dedicated volunteers put together this show and make it a platform for promoting gardening and plant cultivation. A number of horticultural schools, gardening gadgets and pump manufacturers and nurseries participate in this show and display colorful exhibits in their stalls. The exhibition aims at not only promoting the new devices that make gardening a pleasure, but also introduce the love of cultivating plants, shrubs and trees in the hearts of the layman. The volunteers all own and cultivate their own house gardens, vegetable patches and fruit orchards. The exhibition hands out scholarships, awards and other goodies with an aim to promote their cause. Many celebrities grace the show often and this causes quite a stir in the locale. The volunteer committee, however, have decided not to hold the show in 2007 due to the cyclones such as Cyclone Larry and Cyclone Monica and natural calamities that had struck the region in 2006. They intend to pick up the tradition in 2008 but on a much larger scale and in an enhanced manner.
